Corporations are people
On Corporate Domination of Humanity
Corporations are people, money is speech, and corporations can be too big to fail. If the world allows this utterly ridiculous sentence to become accepted truth, humanity will be doomed. The sentiments encapsulated in these proposals are evidence of the depth of our collective psychoses. In blunt truth, the fact that these assertions were not immediately damned and abandoned and the exact opposite of each implemented hints that current facades of modern civilization have already shattered. Further, the actions of all sectors of the Federal Government of the United States and the Federal Reserve System are mere attempts to glaze over these fissures and to maintain the corporate status quo; at humanity’s peril.
‘Corporations are people’ is a profound and potentially revolutionary claim. As with all political speech in modern life, this well-crafted three word phrase has been sloganized and propaganda in full swing. Of course, the corporation offers this notion to humanity in order to further glorify the human-crafted myth that the corporation is a benign, nay, even benevolent entity which is being discriminated against unfairly. One goal is to cause humanity to have unnatural sympathy and deference to this man-made construct which is no more a person than a sandwich – (or a blueprint). The deeper and more sinister reality/implication is that the corporation cult is jealous of the individual authentic person, and claims unfairly limited by such things as laws and regulations and yes - limits. For generations it has watched as the human has fought and worked for fairness and freedom and rights, often in direct competition with the stated interest of corporations. Corporations present themselves as an unquestionable force for economic development for the world. Alas you could claim that a hammer is the portal to enlightenment, and then proceed to bash in someone’s head with it. We humans strive for free society and they strive for free market. We write laws, they break them. We attempt to regulate dangerous, usury, and scandalous corporate schemes and they just work around any glitches in their plans with their all-encompassing buying of lawmakers. In short, they seek to have every right that humans do, and I would argue, seek to diminish our individual rights below that of the corporation’s. If we allow the concept that corporations are people to plop onto the hallowed marble floors of our Democracy and fester, only catastrophe and misery will beset future generations of humanity. That is if the planet can even sustain human life for much longer.
If you read the phrase with the inflection Corporations are PEOPLE then we can agree to some valid aspect of the sentiment. For it is indeed true that corporations are (Made of) people. They are creations of and by people. They are basically a figment of the human imagination. Humans are the engine and the chassis and the steering wheel of the corporation. Without humans, there is no corporation.
