Introduction to Oceanus
Good afternoon. My name is Oceanus. Of course, that is not my actual name but a pen name I have decided to go by due to my crippling social anxiety. I chose this name because Oceanus is the Greek Titan lord of the Sea, before Poseidon was elevated to the position as God of the Sea after the Titanomachy. As someone who lives near the ocean and has quite a fondness of it, that is the name I shall go by.
My main focus for this site will be political matters. While I do not physically go out and network I am very attentive to what is going on in my country and the wider world. As you have probably seen, there are many events happening as of late which could be considered as history in the making. I shall commentate on these events accordingly.
As for my political leanings, I am not what you would call a mainstream American political analyst. I do not follow the gospel of either the Democratic or Republican Parties to the letter. This does not mean that I am some centrist, though I respect those who take upon that label. I will go more into my political ideology as my time here goes on. For now, though, you could say I am a populist.
I am also a traveler. I have had the privilege to be able to travel outside of my home country since a young age. My main destinations have been Europe, Latin America, and Canada. Sadly, due to factors outside of my control as well as financial concerns, I have not been able to travel to Europe or any other continent outside of the western hemisphere for a good while. My last visit to Europe was to see relatives in the United Kingdom as well as a trip to St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. I wish to be able to go back sometime in the future.
Another hobby of mine is reading. I have been a very strong reader since a young age. I credit my Grandmother, now passed, for helping me start at such a young age. I believe that reading is an ability that more people should take part in. While I use Ebooks, I prefer physical copies. Something about holding the book and turning the pages is soothing to me. As I read, I can make full films in my head about what is going on. It is a magical experience, and if you are not a reader, I encourage you to try it out sometime.
The next hobby I will touch upon is gaming. Since I was young (I say that as if I am older, I assure you I am not) I would put myself into the world of video games. Some people look at video games as a “losers hobby.” I believe that is wrong. Gamers love what we do, and many of us are hardworking people leading good lives. I personally prefer computer games as I use a laptop which is more mobile than a console. Favorites include Hearts of Iron 4, Victoria 2, Tropico 4, Minecraft, among others.
The last hobby I will include here is anime. Anime is probably the most beautiful form of watchable entertainment that exists today. I prefer subbed over dubbed, although sometimes I will watch the subbed versions first and then go back and watch the dubbed version to compare. My favorite anime includes Mirai Nikki, Code Geass, Elfen Lied, Death Note, Madoka Magica, Seraph of the End, Re: Creators, Hellsing Ultimate, Date a Live, Rosario + Vampire, and Higurashi. There are more but it would take a lot more space to write them all out.
My main purpose on this site will be political analysis, but I will also talk about other things as I see fit. I hope that some of you take the time to read what I write. To those that do, I thank you in advance.
