Select fire is another term for fully automatic, or a machine gun. At the flip of a switch, the firearm can be changed from semi-automatic, or only firing one round each time the trigger is pulled, to fully automatic, where rounds are fired as long as the trigger remains depressed, and are available in the magazine.
