Use of Cloned pigs for organ transplants.

The genetic barrier is being overcome.

As the world races to build smarter machines, another quiet revolution is happening inside laboratories, a revolution that can redefine life itself. Researchers from the USP University of São Paulo announced an unprecedented milestone in the country, the birth of the first cloned pig in Brazil, a healthy animal weighing around 2.5 kg that represents much more than a technical advance, it may be the beginning of a new era in medicine.

Because behind this experiment there is an even greater objective, to produce organs compatible with humans. For decades the idea of using animal organs in transplants ran into a practically insurmountable problem, immediate rejection by the human body, but that began to change. Scientists managed to identify specific genes responsible for this rejection and learned to deactivate them and they did not stop there.

Pigs biologically closer to humans.

In addition to removing those genes, researchers also began inserting human genes into embryos, significantly increasing compatibility between species. In practice, this means transforming the animal's organism into something closer to the human on a biological level, but getting this far was not easy. Mastering genetic modification was only the first stage, the real challenge came later, managing to clone those animals efficiently.

The success rate of this type of process remains extremely low, often between 1 and 5%. And yet, after multiple attempts and technical adjustments, the Brazilian team managed to carry a pregnancy to the end. And that completely changes the scenario, because now the next step is already defined, cloning genetically modified pigs and starting studies aimed directly at transplants in humans.
