The bathroom that comes to you.
The bathroom that comes to you.

One of the most intimate and delicate tasks in caring for the elderly and people with limited mobility may be on the verge of being transformed by robotics. Instead of forcing the patient to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night or constantly rely on the help of a caregiver, a Chinese company has developed a robotic toilet capable of moving directly to the bed, performing the entire hygiene process, and then returning on its own to a station where it cleans itself automatically.
Presented by Yueban and a senior care provider in Shanghai, the Xiaoban transforms the traditionally fixed bathroom into a mobile, on-demand structure. To function within bedrooms, the system had to solve an obvious problem: waste. A layer of foam helps immediately contain odors, while internal activated-carbon filters purify the air. After use, an integrated module washes and dries the user, reducing the need for human assistance and streamlining one of the most sensitive aspects of daily care.
