Portrait Photography – 2 Ladies Working on a Building … Puttaparthi, India

This is my entry in the PortraitPhotography contest by @juliank.

These 2 ladies were part of a crew building this house on a backstreet in Puttaparthi.

Construction workers in India are not the semi-skilled laborers that we find in developed countries (or, as I sometimes like to call them, “over-developed countries”). Most Indian construction laborers generally carry materials such bricks or buckets of concrete.

Since these ladies did not have the cloth ring used by women to balance heavy items on their heads (and to soften the load), it’s clear that they were not doing such heavy work. Perhaps they were cleaners.

Regardless of their tasks, they were dressed very colorfully and beautifully.

Well, i have mixed feelings about this..!

yes it is good to see Indian women are being employed and contributing to their family financially.

But construction site isn't the best place to work for any woman...! 😕

U insisted that they might not be doing the hard labor work, but still it's risky for them to work here.

I'm not judging here but women should occupy less risky jobs than in construction site..!

Stay safe..!

Yes, I agree totally. It was always a bit unsettling to see those Indian women forced to do what was basically "hard labor."

And just for your information, all of India was built by such people -- the poor underclass. They are the ones who've built the buildings and the roads and the subway systems and virtually everything else.

For their efforts, they make only a few bucks / day. And they cannot afford to live in or take advantage of most of the buildings and infrastructure that they build. Very sad.

yeah... poverty is what forcing them to do this hard work.. 😌
May God have mercy on them and bless their life..!

Yes. And may they soon be free from the repressive, oppressive caste system.

hopefully they will...! 😊

Nice picture. I didn't know women do men's work in India, you know the way we see their life style in movies kind of different.

Good point. The last subject that anyone will cover in the movies is the life of an Indian construction worker. They work hard, they work long, and they make little money.

@ceyonce, it's mazing
@majes.tytyty, Wow, you know a lot about this. Thank you for posting.

That's really bad like the kind we find In Africa, but on the big screen they only showcase the well living ones.

..I think the women are the one who do sanding on the walls to even out the surface for polish and be ready for painting, that's what women do in construction site here in the Philippines sir @majes.tytyty
..two different generation of women and they both have a strong features judging by it I can tell they've been working hard
..women rocks!😊

Yep. Women rock!

The great sacrifices that women are willing to lay down for their own families are beyond words to describe as they have the unconditional love for their families. Even in modern days, many things that they do for their families regardless of status may not have always been mentioned since their hearts are for the well-being of their families. These construction ladies are definitely courageous to face their circumstances.

Yes, I'd say they are truly honorable for doing what they do, day in and day out. They definitely do not have the easiest of lives.

@majes.tytyty Indian women are examples of modern hardworking women all my respect
This work is very hard even for men and if they did this work is because of poverty
This photo touch my heart I wish see them in better place in better job preserve their dignity
All my respect and appreciation

You are so correct. These ladies do NOT have any career choices whatsoever. They do that work because they have no options; if they don't do that work, they do not eat.

It's very sad and disturbing that people these days are still forced to labor in such conditions for such meager pay.

I like their dress very colorful and stylish. Do you know why they have red dots on their foreheads?

I believe those red dots represent a "third eye," which supposedly represents or allows for spiritual insight.

I like to have a third eye to see what the whales are up to 😂 🐳

Life is hard and these women survive making a living in any conditions. Not only that they are dressed well in all occasions. I just hope their safety is also considered. I have much respect for them.

No, usually their safety is not considered ... at all. As you can see, these women, and the men, have NO safety wear or safety equipment.

They are not supplied any such equipment, and they sure cannot afford it. The clothes they are wearing are most likely the only clothes they wear. Truly, life is hard for them, in many ways.

This is saddening. I hope things get better and they should be getting paid right. Poverty of people should not be taken advantage of.

India always give you the best photos!
