My favorite things (Powerhousecreatives contest)

With the week being as busy as it has, working long and extra hours, it has made me realize how much I actually needed to do this.

See this contest is pretty simple, show my favorite 3 things and talk about it. Right, nothing to it. Well for me it has taken some work. It took hours here and there throughout the days trying to figure what my... Let me say that again... MY favorite things are.

Sounds silly but if you were in my shoes and some of you are, you would understand. It meant removing layers, many layers to find myself again. And it felt good!

At first I thought, I like to crochet. In fact I love it! I enjoy making something for my kids, for others, making gifts that are useful. And then I thought, no... It's not my favorite of all things because I enjoy doing it for others. I do get a joy of doing something for someone else.

Then I thought... I like.... I like... I like... I like playing games. I enjoy the occasional PS3- XBOX Games, oh wait, I like playing with my kids... Spending time with them, get the excitement etc.

Remove the layers of what is needed from me, and what I do for others. Remove my kids ( not actually) , remove the household, remove the family, just put me in a dark room.

What are my favorite things? What do I miss most?

And so, here it is:

Halloween!!!!!

This is a two in one. For one cannot be done without the other. Well it could if you have deep pockets but then there wouldn't be as much fun in it.

I love Halloween. A chance to scare the kids with the most horrifying decorations and the screams are music to my ears muahahahahaha! Hahahaha! This is much fun! I love what is dark. Of course, I wouldn't scare a 3 yr old to death and ruin her childhood... Or would I? C'mon dudes I have kids too but they love it just as me! And my son! A mini me when it comes to this fun filled day.

It's the chance to disguise yourself as anything you want to be. Something that doesn't exist, something sexy, something gorey, something out of this world and have a blast while doing it. You can even act your character for more fun and people will love it! Do it any other day and people will think you're on drugs.

So, about my two in one? Decorating. I love making Halloween decorations. I've started before with that hand I wrote about a couple weeks ago or something like that...days are flying by can't remember. Anyways, I haven't finished it yet and I was hoping to finish this one for this post but I have been overworked this week and never got to it...

Dun dun duuuuun hahahaha! It's a mini haunted tree. Made of aluminum foil, masking tape and it's in the process of being barked. I put a light in the back to show what's up with that part.

Here is another picture with more work done on it.

I still have the hands to bark up, let it dry, add a few more details, and paint.

Take away Halloween and my creativity almost goes down the drain. I do enjoy making other things non Halloween related, just wouldn't be the same if I didn't have this chance.

Neeeext!!

My spiritual side.

Just this year I have been given the opportunity to tap into my roots and learn what great things I have been missing out on.

It's a long journey that I am on and taking advantage every chance that I get to learn more and be more.

My grandfather (mishomis), is First Nations, and since him, the beliefs, the teachings, everything stopped and the family shamed him. As a child, I grew up with many tribes around me and when the other kids shared with me their journeys, I wanted to be part of it, felt like I was part of it. But then I didn't know that I could have been. Now I am part of it and I am making it my personal mission to bring back the teachings in the family. It's what has always felt right and my children feel it too.

To show you one of my favorite things that I am allowed to show you here is my belongings for smudging.

This is my smudging kit and then some.

To the left is the wooden and painted box that this kit came in. The stones just under are ones that I chose that I felt I needed for my life with the meaning behind it. Kind of like a prayer stone if you wish? The tiny bags are my medicine bag (left) carrying the 4 sacred medicines; cedar, sage, sweetgrass and tobacco. The one on the right carries just tobacco for offerings.

On the bottom is the friendship feather. It can be used to spread the smoke from smudging if you wish.

To the right is the medicine wheel pin. And above it is a braid of sweetgrass. The most important medicine for women. A huge teaching comes with that. Another time.

And above is a piece of driftwood I found to hold the smudging shell when burning along with the smudging stick (there are different ones).

Smudging is one really important thing to do for cleansing and purifying. There is much to know about smudging and so perhaps I can keep this for another post.

On to the next favorite!!

Little ol' me

What in the world am I talking about? Of course I am not my favorite thing. That would make sense if I had a huge bad ego problem.

I'm talking about the parts that I have forgotten about (sort of) since having kids . And that is me, but what part of me...

The gothic me of course!

Since having kids I have been wearing mom clothes as to not get stained and then regular people clothes that don't get me those states. You know the ones that think out loud " omg what is she wearing! What is wrong with her? She's not normal" blah blah blah, whatever. But for my kids, I will spare them the humiliation. Ok, ok, ok I know it's not teaching them to be who you are. I can still be me without the clothing. Besides, that clothing is damn expensive and I wouldn't waste the beautiful sights and style on daylight thick headed people like that.

I miss my old clothes dearly. So I tend to wear them close to Halloween 🤪

Here's a quick messy pile I took out for the shot. It all blends in eh... Let me explain a bit. Oh hey, notice the shirt on the left? Of course I cant forget about crochet and that is one bad ass t-shirt! Haha!

The top one is also a casual shirt. Like going to the movies or for a meal, night walk, which ever.

The middle!

My favorite dress. Hard to see a bit what's happening on the top but I'm not going to try it on for you to see. Lol I'm far from being a model.
The bodice is like a corset, laces up in the back. The top part that you see is like a choker that wears around the neck that also ties up with lace in the front, chest up.
It really is a fun, detailed, layered dress.

The left!

Big poofy skirt 😃 and corset. I have a thing for red and black and a thing for the Victorian look. I also have a black velvet coat with the big sleeves at the wrists, a neck high collar longer butt area, all Victorian style that's beautiful and sophisticated, but I can't find it. My gothic clothes have been put away for another day and I guess I didn't organize it well enough for easy access.

So this concludes all of me, my favorite 3 things that make me, me. I wouldn't go without it (it can be put on hold at times) and it wouldn't be a fun life without it.

Now I ask you this, you know me a little more, what will you do with this newfound information? 😝 I'm just messing. It's late, the end of a long week and I'm out of words so that's the end of it. Have a great night everyone!

You are a master at Halloween decorations! That hand was amazing, but that tree is friggin' fantastic, too! So cool. Ok, I'm really going to find some fun ones to do with my niece now. Love the crochet shirt, too. ;)

Hahaha, thank you, I hope I can paint them as awesome as they look already. I'm so scared to ruin it with bad paint work.

That shirt is the best one ever! It ain't no granny hobby 🤪🤪

Let me know what you make with your niece! Would love to see

Hmm...indeed, if you peel yourself down (not literally) and figure out the question from the core, the list of favourites will be pretty weird for some...

At one point I also think that I love creepy things too! But after a year or something I think I've came out from that... now I totally don't know what are actually my favourites, that's what happens when you don't think much for yourself...

That's exactly what made it hard. I liked, stopped liking, and then forgot about myself. That's why this contest was an important one to do, for myself.
