The prayer of Solomon: Then my works will be acceptable, and I shall judge your people justly. Wisdom 9:12
The Bible tradition attributes the authorship of the Book of Wisdom to King Solomon, and this is a sapiential book that reflects on the nature of wisdom, the destiny of man, and shows, among other things, how divine science manifested itself throughout ancient history from Adam and Noah to the arrival of the chosen people in Canaan. The Book of Wisdom is, if one can put it that way, the answer to an existential quest, a search for the ultimate answers, because, as the sapiential literature teaches, to speak of wisdom is to speak of the divine.
And part of the Book of Wisdom consists of a long monologue, written in the first person, in which King Solomon reflected on his personal experiences, and in particular how wisdom was given to him by God.
It is in this way, then, that a prayer of Solomon for wisdom is presented within the Book. And this prayer begins with a very special request to the only true God: "Give me the wisdom that sits by your throne, and do not reject me from among your servants" Wisdom 9:4. With this, Solomon taught that we should constantly and without hesitation ask God for the necessary wisdom, something that the apostle James would later repeat in other words in his epistle in the New Testament. And that this wisdom, when bestowed by the creator of all things, makes men like God in essence and therefore part of his family, and especially citizens of the heavenly city.
And Solomon, in this plea, asked God for wisdom because she is a guide and spiritual protection in all the enterprises that man undertakes, because she knows everything, even the things that are to happen. This is why Solomon's prayer repeats, but in other words, the request that the King made to God in the sacred place of Gibeon with these wise words: "Then my works will be acceptable, and I shall judge your people justly, and shall be worthy of the throne of my father" Wisdom 9:12.
Solomon, with his prayer, acknowledged the sovereignty of wisdom over all creation, and that it is ultimately wisdom that determines not the small decisions of each individual, but the general course of history, because humanity has a destiny and God has a plan.
