No matter how experienced you are, as a human, you can make mistakes but the key is to prevent them from becoming the errors by correcting them. But yet there are people who are not even aware of what not to do when doing a presentation. Without such knowledge, it is impossible to prevent yourself from doing such mistakes.
Or maybe you are yet to do a business presentation and looking for what not to do when doing a presentation? In this article, we'll discuss some of the mistakes that even experienced presenter makes. If you really want to make your company stand out, you'll have to present it well.
# 1 - Filling the slides with too much text:
This is probably where most people fail. You're not supposed to make your audience read what you've written, you just need to write the bullet points that would help you deliver the message in short. If you've written the same text and you're just repeating it, does it make sense for the audience to listen to you? Actually, reading is more effective than listening in such a case.
Instead of filling your slides with full sentences, use headings and bullet points. Don't explain everything in the slides. Make it so that they would be forced to listen to you to understand what you've written in a slide with interest. Make it interesting with good graphics included.
# 2 - Fast and speedy voice delivery of message:
When you're in a room where your audience is looking at you, make sure that you don't use speedy style. Every person is different and after all, the speed affects the comprehension quality. They will either miss what you just said or end up making assumptions.
And well, I believe that a presenter should be able to adapt different situations. Slow down your speed to the reasonable level, use some facial expressions and proper body language to help people understand your point. If you're not that good, then do some practice as this is much more important than any other thing.
# 3 - Going off-topic:
That's one of the most common mistakes of presenters that they often go off-topic for a long duration. It's normal to go off-topic for a minute but it doesn't make sense to go off-topic for 5 minutes. Your audience came to listen to your presentation about the main topic.
If your intention is to entertain your audience, still keep it within limits as this is not a family show. Focus and try to find out what your audience wants to listen. Answer all the questions like what, when, where, why and how etc. Don't use informal words.
