The pride of Zedekiah: He did evil in the eyes of the LORD his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah. 2 Chronicles 36:12

The Bible, through the history of its kings, from the first king of Israel, Saul, to the last king of Judah, Zedekiah, shows that there are two paths, righteousness and sin, and two retributions, blessing and misfortune, as Psalm 1, the Psalm of the Two Paths, also explains with wisdom, and this is an unquestionable spiritual truth for every reader of the Bible.
The Second Book of Chronicles begins with the recount of the historical events that took place during the reign of Solomon in the Kingdom of Israel, and then, with the division of the Kingdom of Israel into two after the assembly of Sechem, the Second Book of Chronicles fundamentally describes the history of the Kingdom of Judah until its destruction at the hands of the Babylonian empire. And it is in the context of the Davidic dynasty that Zedekiah emerged as king of Judah, who was placed as king by the tyrant Nebuchadnezzar, ruler of Babylon, after deposing Jehoiachin.
The end of Zedekiah as King of Judah is proof that hardness of heart leads to nothing good, neither for the one who governs nor for the ones who are governed. King Zedekiah was a man who let himself be carried away by arrogance and pride and who acted against all common sense. Like a true fool, Zedekiah abandoned the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion) and the wisdom that accompanied his ancestors, David, Solomon, and Josiah, and he paid the consequences; ruin and death accompanied him to his end.
Regarding Zedekiah, the Second Book of Chronicles leaves a brief reminder as a warning about what should not be done: "He did evil in the eyes of the LORD his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke the word of the LORD. He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him take an oath in God's name. He became stiff-necked and hardened his heart and would not turn to the LORD, the God of Israel" 2 Chronicles 36:12-13.
With the destruction of the Kingdom of Judah, the words of Jeremiah were fulfilled, which had not been well received by the leadership of Judah, something that the Second Book of Chronicles did not forget to mention. These events lead to the spiritual reflection that God does not tempt or force men to choose a path, but leaves them to their free will, and therefore, men are responsible for their actions, as happened with Zedekiah.
