After having neglected to renew my vpn subscription for quite some time i decided to shop around for a new provider.
I had been using Expressvpn in the past and was quite satisfied. As we are in the Christmas season i considered taking a look at the offers floating around on the internet. There were a few prerequisites in choosing a provider. They have to be located in a non-14eyes country. THey would also have to accept crypto payments and not keep logs. In other words the basics for a vpn.

Purevpn, which has its base in Hong Kong, did not impress me with the customer service. After buying a one year plan i contacted the customer support to ask for some instructions (activating the kill switch). Through the course of 30 minutes the customer support guy kept giving me instructions that did not work. I finally reorted to trying to solve the probem by my self. It turns out the kill switch was only added in the latest version of the purevpn software. Ahh..certainly not impressive when the customer service ignores such basic things.

That being said, purevpn covers my needs for now. There is software for any platform and i prefer to use the linux terminal commands. Fairly basic but it does the job.
Another plus for Purevpn is that they are very cheap. I paid 12 euros for a year. They also had a five year plan for 69 usd. Thats a fifth of what i was paying in Expressvpn!

I will probably test some more vpn providers with good reputation in 2020. Surfshark and Cyberghot are on my list.

Oh..they also gave me a code for around 15% discount but forgot to use it!
Let me know in the comments if you want to have it!
