Promo-steem growth and how it's starting to transform economics around the world.

"There is no better feeling than doing well while you are doing good"

(A quote by Jay Samit)

It's no accident that promo-steem is growing at an incredible rate. Since we launched it, just three months ago, we have seen it evolve in a way that has surprised and delighted us.

The original idea behind #promo-steem was to encourage people to think about the fact that the STEEM blockchain, and the Steemit platform were so much more than just a site for blogging and earning cryptocurrency.

What's happened is an evolution that, back in the middle of last year, @starkerz, @stephenkendal and myself were talking about. We realised that if folks around the world started promoting the STEEM blockchain, and getting rewarded for doing so, that we could make a number of things happen in tandem.

Firstly, we realised that it would raise the price of STEEM, something everyone on here wants (not least the whales who are holding oodles of it)

Secondly, we postulated that users in developing nations would see the biggest changes to their personal wealth, by virtue of the fact that $1 in Ghana is worth a lot more than $1 in Great Britain.

And thirdly, and this is important, we thought that by getting people into promoting STEEM, that we could effectively create the worlds first Decentralised Marketing Department. And that's exactly what is starting to happen.

We talked about these concepts in our recent video. If you didn't see it first time round, here it is again:

And the big kicker is that it's changing lives....Every day.

If you live in a rich nation, and are an occasional user on the Steemit platform, you might make a few bucks here and there and not think too much about it.

But if you live in a place where there is a great deal of poverty and economic hardship, the STEEM blockchain is changing lives, irradicating poverty, and has the potential to create a system which can alter and enhance entire communities.

The shocking truth about economics...and how the STEEM blockchain is changing the world

Almost half of the population of the world lives on less than $2.50 per day. In the UK you're lucky to get a cup of instant coffee in a greasy spoon Cafe for that.

Around a BILLION people live on less than the equivalent of $1 per day. That's real poverty.

So when you live in these places, and you are active on the Steemit platform, (and most importantly adding value to the STEEM blockchain) you can quickly figure out that getting a few dollars from a daily post could make the difference between being able to eat that day or not.

And when you then start to see that some of the greatest promoters I've seen come from these countries. These folks are out there, smashing it, telling whole communities about STEEM and Steemit. They are tireless, brilliant, fearless, exceptional people, and personally, I want to reward them all.

What makes the STEEM blockchain so great?

The STEEM blockchain is, to all intents and purposes, the single biggest blockchain out there. It accounts for close to HALF of all Blockchain transactions across the world, is free to use, lightening fast, barely breaks a sweat in terms of network capacity, and yet has a very low market capitalisation (in other words, it's clearly not in a massive bubble like you could argue about Bitcoin and Ethereum for example).

It's also one of the very few blockchains that is being used, in a very practical way, by people all around the world. And they aren't just using it to drop a few stories about their day, or moan about the trains, or share their pictures of their dinner (and all the other usual rubbish that clutters up most people's Facebook feeds).

In so many ways, people are beginning to use the STEEM blockchain for the purpose of changing their communities. Because this platform is so much more than blogging. It's about collaboration, croudsourcing, leveraging the power of the crowd, and doing it in a way that doesn't require moderators, censorship or advertising revenue.

Someone asked me the other day if I could only choose one blockchain, one crypto, one idea, which would I put all my chips into. I didn't have to think about it. It's STEEM all the way.

From a purely economic point of view, it's the big hitting blockchain that isn't bubbling. But more importantly, it's the one that I see making a real difference in the lives of ordinary people all around the world.

If you ever wanted to be part of something that did good in the world, spending some time curating on posts made by promoters around the world is a great idea. Everyone's earning, of course, but when you give freely to the promoters, especially the ones in less wealthy places, you are changing lives for the better

That's something to be utterly proud of. So please, I implore you, perhaps think about how your upvote can really help people out there. We are trying to make it easier for people to find and reward great promoters, and we are working to bring a really slick promo-steem website to you.

We are in the process of going through the applications for Steem Ambassadors. And at the same time, we are planning some incredible, and potentially jaw dropping events in the next few months. Watch this space!

And do follow what we are doing at @steem-ambassador to get all the latest cool #promo-steem news.

You guys are doing some commendable work which I personally think will reward you greatly in years to come. It's so true what you've said. In my country Ghana, 1 SBD is enough to get the average citizen a decent 3 square meal and those of us who are already here in this platform can attest to this. It's really amazing how things are changing in the lives of several users from Africa but the problem we are confronted with is how we can also help build up the system. I know we are doing our part by promoting it the rest of the country but it's not even in my opinion. We working on something at the moment and as time goes on, we will share it with the entire steemit community. I'm glad there are still people like you guys out there supporting less privileged countries. God bless yall.

I'm glad to see you mention Ghana in your post. It's incredible that new recruits have started promoting at their respective locations. Because they've envisioned the future prospects the steem blockchain is certain to bring about.

I particularly have enjoyed a lot of the promoting that I see coming out of Ghana. The guys out there are so passionate about the blockchain and the Steem Platform, and they really deserve to do well. Similarly the work coming out of Nigeria, Indonesia and the Philippines is also brilliant. In fact, there's stuff coming from everywhere. I am in awe sometimes at the tirelessness of promoters out in these places, and one of my plans this year is to do a little tour to come and visit some of you out in your respective countries and have a meetup!

Yes we are here to deliver cos we are so passionate about steemit

Very thought provoking - and - a key learning for me is giving some extra thought to the value of the upvote to the author. For the time being the @cryptocurator upvote is low but will be investing in STEEM POWER very soon so the upvote value will be going through the roof. Pleased to hear the @steem-ambassador team are bursting with brilliant ideas.

Thanks man, I'll talk to you tomorrow about some cool stuff you might like to get involved with too!

Also, I should add that your stats are interesting. Even to someone like me who doesn't normally care a hoot for stats in the real world, on the STEEM blockchain, they're actually quite cool. Can I believe I just said that?

Thank you for having us in mind, am really glad and truly steemit is changing lives in Nigeria, I am a living testimony and that is why I have made it a daily duty and full time job promoting steemit, thanks for all the support giving to my community #credo and we hope to get more so we can encourage newbies and get promotions running here effectively. thank you

You're welcome, and we should be thanking you guys. Frankly, some of the promoters in Nigeria are putting us to shame here in the west, and you can be very proud of what you are achieving @keban. We applaud you!

Thank you so much, you are our motivation.

"If you ever wanted to be part of something that did good in the world, spending some time curating on posts made by promoters around the world is a great idea."

Love this. Agreed and re-steemed. This is truly revolutionary and empowers entire nations. Hope has been restored to many.

Thank you for picking that bit out especially. It's really important!

Great work #promo-steem they really encourage people to think about the fact that the STEEM blockchain, and the Steemit platform were so much more than just a site for blogging and earning cryptocurrency

I think the blockchain is evolving. It is so much more than social media. Look at the work happening with projects like Utopian for example. I think for me, knowing that we are promoting the message, raising the value of STEEM and helping change lives across the world, whilst at the same time helping me and my loved ones get out of the bureaucratic nightmare of government is amazing. Great work is being done all around the world, and I'm pleased to have been a part of it.

you guys put alot of creativity in promoting steem,,i'm going to follow you so that i get new ideas in promoting steem..we are doing the same thing in uganda,

Thanks @jordanlove. Wait till you hear about some of the new things I've been talking with the team about....We are excited.

am always tuned

Highly rEsteemed!
We're following this very concept,
Microcosmically, with @steempunkradio.
Kind regards!

Thanks @frankbacon. By the way, if you want to do a talk about it on Steempunk radio, we are more than happy. I'm going to be doing a lot more podcasts this year, and @Stephenkendal has been smashing it on a number of channels too.

Would definitely listed to the radio podcast- sounds like a great idea....

Frankly speaking, steemit has opened us here and many others around the world to a whole new world of opprtunities. This new world of community building is going to be ever growing as long as we expose as many people as we can to it.
