#DELETEFACEBOOK AND JOIN STEEM?

in #promo-steem7 years ago (edited)

Facebook users are not happy after it was revealed that a data mining firm improperly got its hands on the personal information of tens of millions of Facebook users. Many are becoming aware of how their personal data on Facebook and other social media sites could be compromised or mined and sold to the lowest bidder without their knowledge or without receiving any portion of those proceeds. It seems as if the community could be fed up with what appears as disingenuous actions by Facebook, a lack of regard for user privacy, and rewarding users with little likes and hearts instead actually paying them. Now users have taken to Twitter to voice their concerns and demand others delete Facebook all together. Will #DeleteFacebook trending on Twitter today lead more users to join STEEM?

We need competitive developer team on steemit to improve user experience, adding new features and official apps for mobile users.

Steemit is great but it doesn't satisfy a lot of the useful geographical community aspects facebook offers like groups and events. Not to mention the messaging system is severely lacking. Steemit can replace reddit. But is there another decentralized social media platform that can take the place of facebook?

Fair points. Its obvious that STEEM is still behind in some aspects when groups are lacking, Steem Chatprovides a messaging tool but its off chain and doesn't seamlessly integrate with Steemit, and other features could be better, but the potential is all there and the community exists so its up to us to make kaBOOM!

Thanks will check it out. Would love to see something replace Telegram especially now after the Russian government ruled that they need to give up their private keys.

no need to delete FB just use both Steemit and FB

The wonderful world of Steemit never ceases to surprise, and you sir, never cease from uncovering and sharing good info - thanks!

This isn't news to me, and the only reason we are hearing about it is because the info was harvested "improperly". Rest assured folks, there is no fuck to be given about your privacy, except from YOU. LEARN THE LESSON - if you trust some entity more than your own common sense, expect to get burned. Never had a Facebook, never will. I value my control and my privacy too much to trade it for convenience.

i used to own a few websites myself, i never did this but anyone with an app or website could pinpoint everything about you in just a few minutes, also selling of your info without you knowing happens on just about all websites, i didn't have the heart to do that to anyone so i just left that part alone. your emails are sold in bulk to anyone who wants to pay for it. If your going to delete facebook you might want to think about everything else you are on too realistically. You think facebook is bad honestly google is number 1 id watch out for. twitter amazon ect.

agreed. Having my data out there is bad enough, but it adds insult to injury when they think we're all too stupid to notice what they are really up to. I provide the data I must provide in order to use the services I feel are worthy enough to warrant that trade-off. Facebook isn't one of those for me, and the first chance I have to ween myself off those other platforms I will. I have the same loyalty to these companies as they have to me - none.

Anyone surprised by this ought not to be. Let's not kid ourselves now...;)

@stephenkendal , thank you for sharing and everything you do for the STEEM community. keep kaBOOMIN over there!

Disclaimer: I am just a bot trying to be helpful.

I started a "delete facebook" campaign about 8 years ago when I started realizing that I was using the platform to create some sort of fascade image of myself. The whole experience in FB felt really fake, the relationships there felt oddly competitive in the worst sort of way, and every jerkoff I brush shoulders with in high school want to chit chat all of a sudden even though we had nothing in common apart from going to the same HS.

I moved onto G+ which was good for a while, but it became a dumpster of political vitriol that grew irritating over time. I still have several thousand connections on G+ and I'm actively trying to pull them over here to SteemIt.

#BiggieSmalls " if you don't know now you know" I'm dying over here! I shared this on my Facebook account ;)

This is very true, It is revolutionary in many ways but also just common sense!

My favorite part about Steemit is that it promotes a giving economy rather then just a jelousy-drama fest that is Facebook. Facebook is scarcity mindset, and Steemit is a flourishing garden!

I agree. Loving Steem so far.
