My Promo-Mentors Writing Challenge"(Wrong Turn)
Hi steemians i am motivated to tell this story of my messed up day, this story has been locked away in my heart for a long time but i am going to share it on this platform because this simply the best place to do it, where else Facebook? Hell no!
I am using this opportunity to reach out to those who reduce the rate at which they engage on steemit i don't know how much you invest but being less engaging on this platform doesn't increase your portfolio here, i believe in this platform so i am here to stay be it in good time and bad time because in the bad times is when you discover some other things about yourself and how you are capable to deal with some situation... I am still here and i will always be here cus I AM STEEMIT ORIGINAL yeah back to the story..
It happened some years back 2014 specifically i was freshly admitted to the university of my dream, The Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria. To study Project Management Technology, that wasn't what i wanted to study i actually applied for Architecture but my score wasn't enough so instead of rejecting my application they gave me (PMT), since the school is my dream school i also accepted the course and i immediately started preparing for the much awaited challenge ahead.
I resumed on the 14th of January 2014, it was all buzzy and fun moving out of Lagos for the first time to live in another city was some what fun and lively atleast i could experience other tribe and their language, because Lagos is mainly a pidgin speaking state, so going to Akure to hear people speak a local dialect was fun to me.
In Lagos i have never heard someone speak any other language, if you don't speak in English, pidgin you speak in Yoruba, hausa and Igbo.
The university calender has 2 semester in one session the first semester was to run for 6months which is unusual as i was told at the time, no matter how i tried to blend in i was always carried away with fun so i did little to concentrate on my academics i would go to parties miss classes and fail to do assignment not that i didn't want to do them but because i haven't fully blend in with the system.
So the reality of school became real when we are to write tests, since it was computer based test i could read up in a very short time and take the test some of the result was good some wasn't i didn't care cus i never expected to perform up to the standards i was getting and the courses i didn't do well in i consoled myself with the good results, in all i was a bad student doing more damage to myself...
THE DEED
Finally it was exam time the exam timetable was all over the campus the buzz up in the air, no more sleeping, student reading over the night in the lecture theatres.
On my timetable it reads i have two papers on the first day which was on Monday they are :CHEM-101, BIO-101, 3unit each a total of 6unit thats a lot of point which can make or mar a student depends on how he/she takes their studies.
The previous night before the exam, the examination tension was high i wanted to cool the tension so i put a call through to a friend i just met, so we planned to meet at a local bar "Abegi Anu" meaning (Mercy Shed) our idea of cooling the examination tension was to take one bottle of beer each, how suicidal that would be we didn't know.
From one bottle to another we later agreed to even the number of unit of exam we were to write the next day with the number of beer we drank that night and so we both drank 3 bottle each to even the 6 unit course we are taking the next day.
Suddenly we heard some disturbing noise just outside the bar it grew louder and louder until the bar manager took some security measures by locking the front door from outside to check what was going on outside..
Immediately we heard that noise we came back to our senses the tipsy and Highness feeling that comes with beer vanished and all that was in our mind was to get back to campus and prepare for the exam next day, it was as if our mind is being controlled by a remote as our thinking is similar and at the same time, we both walk to the door and started banging it for the bar manager to let us out..
We almost knocked down the front door atleast that was we thought, the manager finally open the door and we left the bar immediately we didn't even pay.
THE SCENE
When we got outside the bar i saw a car outside already crashed into a kiosk beside the road another car wrongly parked at the other side of the, then 2 guy having a go at each other in the drainage opposite the crashed car some other guys was throwing punches at each other very close to the wrongly parked car at the other side of the road, and some girls standing close to the scene so i really didn't know what was going on, what was on my mind was to get out of that environment and i believe that was the same thing on my friends mind.
So we decided to walk silently to evade the fight in front of us, just as we were about to get to the two car i saw 2 guys ran towards the wrongly parked car and switch on the ignition those girls joined them and before anything they zoomed off, left was the other guys they started throwing stones at the car as it zoomed off we were almost hit by one of the stones so we evaded the stone, so we decided to run forward a bit in the hope of not getting hit by the stones, immediately we started running the guys started running after us with weapons, they must have mistaken us for the guys they were fighting, i initially thought it was a joke as i was running i was looking back and explaining to them that they are making a mistake by chasing us, i remembered clearly the reply one of them gave me, he said; You are both dead once we catch up to you.
What? That was when it dawned on me that they weren't ready to listen to anything than to kill us, i increase my speed, cus that night i was running for my life.
What amazed me most was that my friend outran me, i didn't know he can run that fast, i am sure he was running at a speed close to the speed of light that night.. We finally lost them but one of my shoe fell off during our escape from the grip of death its nothing compare to my life though...
REFLECTION.
Instead of reading my book and preparing for my first examination i almost lost my life in a scene where i know nothing about, being in the wrong place at the wrong time is a WRONG TURN. I know i messsed up big time and i am grateful to God for preserving my life and giving me enough time to run like a war horse that night...
That's my mess up event, its a true life story no fiction, no subtraction or addition just the way it happened to me.
Thanks to @futurethinker for giving this opportunity to share this event with steemians...
