Paul and the gift of prophecy: Their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God. 1 Corinthians 14:25
The Book of Acts relates that the apostle Paul remained in the city of Corinth for more than a year during his second missionary journey, and there he carried out an important missionary activity, founding the Church of this same city; the importance of this church was such that after leaving Greece, he dedicated two important spiritual epistles to this Christian community.
The First Epistle to the Corinthians was probably written by Paul during his third missionary journey before the end of the first century AD, in this letter, Paul preached on various topics such as Christian wisdom, the importance of the common life, and above all, the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
During the lifetime of the apostles, the followers of Jesus were called the sect of the Nazarene, and Paul had to make a significant theological effort to make it clear that Christianity was a new religion, and the gifts of the Spirit helped to achieve this. Paul was very clear in his teachings: the followers of Jesus should live the gifts received from above, like mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) and perseverance, and not commit themselves to fulfilling imperatives impossible to meet completely; the old law does not free man from the slavery of sin, Paul taught.
In Paul's thinking, the gifts received made believers like God, and these blessings should not remain unproductive; that is why he mentioned in his epistle, among other things, the gift of tongues and the gift of prophecy. And about the gift of prophecy he wrote something very interesting, because prophecy is linked to truth, the secrets of the hearts and of what is hidden but must be made manifest to all; this gift serves to persuade unbelievers and lead them to faith, Paul wrote, and so he expressed this spiritual truth: "As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, ´God is truly here among you.´" 1 Corinthians 14:25.
Prophecy itself is astonishing, it strikes the hearts of men, and it bears witness to God, Paul explained, and if Christians want to live in God's grace they must consider this perfection of God as a path to achieving blessedness.
