SLC-S29/W1-Mind & Learn : The Psychology Journey "Control Your Emotions"
I’m pleased to be part of this great class (Mind & Learn: The Psychology Journey) where emotions are expressed and penned down into words in week one of the season. I will proceed to the tasks given;
TASK 1
Title: Silence Speaks Powerfully
It was a simple dialogue, nothing dramatic at first. A friend made a comment unmindful, maybe unknowingly but it landed harshly. I smiled on the outside like nothing happen yet inside my chest knotted. Her words replayed again and again in my head, growing stronger each time. Few hours later, I was no longer upset about her comment but how it had deeply affected me bad and my emotions.
I sat alone and reflected on the situation including the triggers, instead of replying with anger or silence I chose to make peace with myself. I recounted exactly what happened, how it made me feel at that particular moment. Making peace with myself helps me calmed my thoughts, the turmoil inside my head subdued because I knew that all kinds of people exist including those that play around with hurtful words.
Thought
I tried my possible best to see the situation as a judge instead of a victim; was the comment aimed to hurt me?or was it spoken out of ignorance?, I came to an understanding that my pain was real but so was my strength to choose my answer. Revenge would only extend the moment but forgiveness might realease it.
Lessons
Not every emotions needs instant action, sometimes the best answer is a pause and let silence be the order of the moment. A space to contemplate before reacting, ignoring her helps me understand that respecting my feelings doesn't mean being governed by them. Letting go isn't weakness; it is clarity. In that pause between deep thoughts and silent treatment, I found peace.
TASK 2
I’ve read several interesting and impactful books but for the purpose of this challenge, I will be sharing one named; INVISIBLE MAN
In this chapter (one), the narrator begins to recount dominant memories from his past. A time when he was a young black college student who had just passed out from high school in the segregated south.
He was summoned to give a speech about humanity and black progress to the white ruling class ,he is thrilled and honoured of the opportunity believing it's a stepping stone towards recognition, frame and success.
Further more, before he's giving the opportunity to speak he is forced to participate in humiliating and brutal "battle royal". A match held on stage where he and other young black men are blindfolded and are made to fight each other to entertain the white.

After the fight the humiliation continues as they were all made to scramble in an electrified rag to grab fake coins and finally, the narrator is permitted to give his speech.
Although, the white man rewarded him heftily with a brief case and a scholarship.
The chapter ends with a dream revealing his grandfather (who had previously warned him about the dangers of obedience to the white flocks) appears and the narrator opens the briefcase to find a note writing "keep this nigga boy running"
TASK 3
Greed comes before a fall and that was the case of Harun who thinks that milking people from the current situation will give him more wealth but at the end LIFE and CIRCUMSTANCES took what he treasured the most.
This is a shared story but I will attest that it is relatable; many in this present world prioritize material possessions to humanity and that was actually the case of Harun Chowdhury who allowed greed to override him ( a great mistake he will ever live to regret).
At the other hand, Kibria Ahmed in the story represented his people well with so much strength and courage at their lowest but his mistake was trusting Harun Chowdhury too fast by giving him the opportunity to sell to the people during the famine but I can justify Kabria's decision for going into agreement; all he wanted was the best for the people.
Now, was the doctor right? NO! Is a child supposed to pay for his parents' mistakes and shortcomings, NO!
The doctor allowed emotions to cloud him, refusing to treat Harun's soon shows lack of compassion and that action will not only traumatized Harun Chowdhury but others who were present.
Love, empathy, humanity, unity and even moral responsibility are anchor during disaster, without this, we are only going to have a broken and powerless system because at the end LIFE will strike hard.
TASK 4
Here’s my infographic showing five (5) steps on how to control emotions.
I will invite @suboohi, @mvchacin and @dequeen to join the challenge.
