Cell phones, parents and children’s # 2

in #psychology6 years ago (edited)

This post deals with parents who give their kids cell phones and tablets just to calm them down.
According to a recent American study, parents are mostly uninterested in having their children increasingly using digital media.

An increasing number of parents use smartphones and tablet computers to calm and comfort the naughty children.
Approximately 2,500 parents participated in the research, whose children are not older than eight years old. The study shows that parental attitudes about the role of technology in the youngest lives radically changed over the last few years.

Almost 80 percent of parents claim that their children's use of digital media is not the cause of family conflicts, while 60 percent of them are afraid that their children will become addicted to phones, tablets, or computers. The study has shown that even half of the parents do not care about the fact that their children spend more and more time with electronic devices.

The study titled "Parenting in the age of digital technology," calls into question two key assumptions about media and parenting.

The first is that smart phones and tablet computers have become the basic parenting tool. However, parents claim that they still prefer to opt for a toy, book or TV when they want to occupy their little ones. Yet 40 percent of them admit that they will give the baby a tablet computer to calm him down.
The second hypothesis that the research argues is that most households have a problem with the time the child is running in front of the screen, but also with the methods of limiting that time.

By the seventh year the child will spend a whole year in front of the screen

Today's young parents have grown up with technology and they look at technical novelties differently than the previous generation of parents. Instead of fighting with children on one and the other on the other, the use of digital devices has become commonplace and everyday.
The impact of digital technology on the social, emotional and cognitive development of children is yet to be explored, and some recent research has shown that the Internet can really change the way our brains work.
In addition to the above, the research has led to other interesting conclusions: Apart from video games, parents are more 'for' than '' against '' when using modern gadgets.

Computers and mobile phones develop children's creativity as well as readability and computing skills. The biggest parental concern about this problem is the fact that digital media have a negative impact on the physical activity of children.

Pediatricians would like to remind mothers and fathers that using smartphones as babysitters really isn’t such a great idea because children learn best by interacting with other people (especially parents), not screens.
