What is Hedonic adaption, an what does it have to do with you?
Hedonic adaption, is the observed tendency of humans to quickly return to a relatively stable level of happiness despite major positive or negative events or life changes.
What does this mean? You know that feeling you get when you accomplish a great goal or milestone within your life? Of course you do.
You may get that new car, house or a new pay raise, the feeling you get is usually amazing. Now for the bad news. Eventually that feeling will fall into constant decline. while that "feeling" becomes a norm in your life. Your mind starts to get used to these things and no longer sends that flood of happiness upon achievement.
This is exactly how people can become addicted to money an power. Constantly searching for the new "happiness high".
So what can be done to escape the hedonic treadmill?
