Multiple personality disorder, a case of revenge

ZAIN'S STORY

Zain cringed at the thought of what was about to befall her. She looked at her torturer with disdain...he had sent her sister out again on errands.

He did this whenever he wanted to hurt her, she was tired. Tired of being used by him, he constantly abused her when no one is around. He had been doing this to her since she was 7 and now at 15, she was still his captive.

He decided what she could do and what she couldn't do, he threatened her not to tell anyone, worse still , he lived under the same roof with her. He was her father's youngest brother but was worse than a stranger.

She often makes up her mind to fight him with all her strength but each time, he overpowers her. She kept thinking daily, mentally preparing herself for the task, she kept telling herself she had to do what she had to do. No one would believe her if she told them what he constantly did to her. She kept preparing herself mentally, until a new personality was formed she began to act out her desires.

She will suddenly make a switch into another world, she will find herself getting hold of a knife, preparing to stab him when next he comes. Suddenly she will find herself shattered again, weeping. She was going insane, she knew it but didn't know how to stop.

One day she stabbed him to death when he tried to rape her again. She had killed him before realising, she didn't know how she did it. She became sorrowful, she had become a murderer. No one knew she was responsible, she wasn't sure she had done it either. But she was happy and seemed to forget about the pains of the past.

Years after, her parents realised she was pyschologically ill and had MPD this was after she had killed her second boyfriend.

WHAT IS MPD?

Multiple personality disorder, also referred to dissociative identity disorder is a condition wherein a person's identity is divided into two or more distinct personality states.

MPD is a strange condition which gets many people thinking the sufferers are either possessed by evil spirits or are suffering a mental condition. We can say that a sufferer of MPD has his or her brain and mind messed up.

SYMPTOMS

MPD now known as Dissociative identity disorder is usually characterized by the presence of two or more distinct or split identities or personalities in one person (alters). This personalities continually have power over the victim/person's behavior.
I once read about a woman with 17 different personalitues inside of her.. She almost lost her life but she survived therapy.

With dissociative identity disorder, sufferers tend to forget key personal information especially because their minds and brain don't want them too. With dissociative identity disorder, there are different memory variations, which fluctuate with the person's split personality.

The different identities sufferers build within themselves have different age, sex, or race. Each has his or her own postures, gestures, and distinct way of talking. Sometimes the alters are imaginary people; sometimes they are animals.
As each personality in one person reveals itself and controls the individuals' behavior and thoughts, it's called "switching." Switching can take seconds to minutes to days. When under hypnosis, the person's different "alters" or identities may be very responsive to the therapist's requests.

Along with the dissociation and multiple or split personalities, people with dissociative disorders may experience a number of other psychiatric problems.

HELPING SUFFERERS OF MPD

Apart from psychotherapy and serious psychological treatments with drugs and counselling sections, victims of MPD/Dissociative disorders can be helped by their family and close relatives.

Most victims start the healing process by talking about their pain and by being helped to remember every part of the childhood and memories. Remembering and talking about everything, the joy, the terrible memories and the pain, helps victims.

Strange as this may sound, there are sufferers of this condition amongst us. Psychological ailments are becoming more rampant and individuals have to be vigilant and deliberate about their health and psychological behaviour. Individuals have to learn being calm and wise in reacting to terrible situations as well.

MPD affects a lot of people but beacuse of the society we live it’s difficult for the victims to speak up. We take psychology disorders for granted.
