Do not think of it!
No matter what, don't think of
our Pink Elephant!
So yes, it's true, I'm not above completely goofy haiku, but then a lot of you already knew that. ;-)
When we first started looking at property in Tennessee, we looked at several in this general area, and so we quickly became acquainted with the pink elephant, which cracked me up the first time I saw it, and still makes me smile nearly every time I drive by.
I grew up in the Los Angeles area, where public art / street art is pretty much a given, and still fondly remember a hamburger joint that looked like a grounded space ship, several ice cream parlors shaped like ice cream cones, and literally hundreds of absolutely amazing murals.
But there's something that's just too cool for school about this big guy, because really, how many life sized pink elephants are among your acquaintances? And there is something truly special about the small city that he calls home.
We have half a dozen towns within half an hour or so from home, but of all of them, it is Cookeville that I visit the lion's share of the time.
And this is for no other reason but that I just like it here - how many small cities it's size have their own symphony orchestras? I can't say for certain, but I can say with confidence that it's damned few. And, more than this, it just has great vibes . . . the people here are genuinely nice, which I've found to be true throughout Tennessee.
Always a good thing. ;-)

If I get out your direction in the Future, I will remember to stop by and hug this pink elephant. I suspect this is a town I would fit well into. Cute post, and elephant!

Cookeville is a fun town, and is a great mix of college town, small enough city to really get to know, and surrounded by enough wide open rural areas to never feel crowded, even when traffic gets snarled.
And, being on I-40 in-between Nashville and Knoxville, it supports a decent variety of restaurants and businesses, and still growing at a decent but not unsustainable pace.
It does look like a fun town, and a very good looking pink elephant!
