The Feather Star
Feather stars falls under the phylum Echinoderm and are related to starfish, brittle stars, sea cucumbers and sea urchins. They can sometimes be mistaken for brightly coloured corals, so are often hiding in plain sight. However, while they do attach themselves to rocks and corals, they do have the ability to move about.
They feed on plankton and other food items in the water column. They do this by "catching" the food with there beautiful feathery arms and feeding it into their mouth parts in their centre.
I am unsure of what this particular species is but it was photographed on a dive in Bali a few years ago.
