Raspberry Pi 2 Model B - Project Idea (Cat Defender!)

in #raspberry6 years ago (edited)

I've had a Raspberry Pi 2 Model B kicking around for some time now with very little use. But I have now a project idea that I am considering on pursuing.

I happen to live with multiple cats whom absolutely love getting into things and on things particularly in one room, "The Office". However, I do have an "Office Cat" that does not seem to do that, so I'd like to avoid punishing her specifically.

The idea is to purchase the pi camera board and utilise OPENCV for facial recognition to distinguish "The Office Cat" from the "Intruders" and upon doing so, using some servos to blast some compressed air or a squirt of water as they "Intrude/Violate" the door parameters.

Problem is, would that even recognise a cats face? Considering she a relatively dark colored (tortoiseshell calico), the "Office Cat" that is.

Thoughts?

And no, this is not a joke :)
