This "beertail" is a delectable way to get buzzed up in honor of fall's arrival, as well as a guaranteed crowd pleaser for your Halloween party.  The cinnamon sugar rim welcomes a refreshing swig of vanilla, pumpkin spice, and everything nice to your palate.  Get ready for a new addiction if you're a virgin to the DP.


1.) Gather your ingredients

-pumpkin beer (only Sam Adams' 20 Pounds of Pumpkin is available where I shop this early in the season, but I like Shipyard's Pumpkinhead or Red Hook's Pumpkin Porter the most for this drink)

-vanilla vodka 

-a pint glass

-caramel syrup

-cinnamon sugar




2.) Sauce the rim of your glass.

As you can see in the picture, you don't need much.  Too much caramel will make your sugar rim drip down the side of your glass, resulting in sticky hands by the end of your beertail.



3.) Dip your caramel coated rim in cinnamon sugar.  In and out. No need to twist or dip over and over again.  You are still not striving for sticky fingers.



3.) Pour your pumpkin beer into your perfectly rimmed glass.  

Tip the glass at an angle just like how you see bartenders pouring draft beer.  This will help you preserve the fizz.  

If you invert your beer and let it waterfall into your glass, it'll probably make a gigantic head (the foam seen in the following image, carbonation exiting) thus overflowing the glass and ruining your perfect rim job.



4.) Add a shot of vanilla vodka!!

If you don't have a shot glass, a shot is usually between 1.5-2 ounces, or 3-4 tablespoons.

Adjust based on your taste! You should be able to taste a hint of vanilla without an overpoweringly boozy flavor.



5.) Enjoy with whoever's available.

Even if it's your sleepy cat.
