Just How TOLERANT Is The God Of The Bible?

in #religion7 years ago

The other day, I came across an image on the internet. A laminated copy of the Declaration of Independence of Israel. It left me confused.

'The State of Israel will be based on the precepts of liberty, justice and peace taught by the Hebrew Prophets.'

'Will guarantee the full freedom of conscience and worship.'

'Will safeguard the sanctitiy and inviolability of the shrines and Holy Places of all religions and will dedicate itself to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.'

HOW IS SUCH A THING EVEN POSSIBLE???

Which part of TEAR DOWN their altars, SMASH their sacred pillars, BURN UP their asherah poles, CUT DOWN the idols of their gods, DEMOLISH their high places, DESTROY their carved images, and OBLITERATE their name from that place, is even remotely compatible with religious freedom and the protection of the shrines and holy places of other religions within the borders of the Holy Land?

Do people actually believe that the God who smashed up Dagon in his own house. The God who proclaims Himself to be the only true God. The God who describes Himself as a jealous God. Do people actually think this God suddenly saw the merits in sharing His little piece of land with the gods of the nations? That the shrines, buildings and other structures dedicated to foreign deities in His land grew on Him? Suddenly becoming tolerable?

I must confess, I, like many other people throughout the world, enjoy having the right to choose which God I want to follow and the right to serve Him as I believe, without fear of oppression. However, it doesn't change the fact that the God of Israel whose name is Jealous (Exo 34:14), is a highly religiously intolerant God. Whether you perceive this as a good thing or a bad thing is up to you.

I'm not writing this because I want the State of Israel to suddenly declare one religion for all its citizens and outlaw every other religion within its borders. That would just be a disaster. A terrible one.

I'm writing this because in our efforts to make Hashem acceptable in a generation that values progression in all aspects of society, we have created a fictitious mockery of the true and living God, and have fallen under its delusions. Hashem doesn't care about fitting in. He never has and He never will.

A time will come when Hashem will decide to fulfill His good word to the house of Israel. One of His first actions will be to send Elijah the prophet. Stop and consider that. This part is important! Elijah, is just not any prophet, but one of the most pro-active religiously intolerant prophets in all of Israel's history.

Go and reacquaint yourselves with this man of God who was found worthy to ascend into heaven, without facing death. Consider his exploits and his efforts to purge idolatry from within the land. Do you believe that his message and choices today will be any different to his message and actions in the past? How compliant do you think Elijah will be when faced with the plans of the nations to shape the young State into their image? And Israel's willingness to go along with them?

Elijah will be Elijah. And it will be a dark day, a gloomy day. A black day, a cloudy day. (Joel 2:2) On this day, every man and woman will have to make a choice. If you believe Hashem has the wisdom, power and desire to bring peace and prosperity to your gates, follow Him, and if you believe the nations have the wisdom, power and desire to bring peace and prosperity to your gates follow them. But no man can follow two masters. Either you will love one and hate the other, or you will be devoted to one and despise the other. The State of Israel has proven this.
