Irresponsible Capitalism

Or how their ills are blamed on someone else.

It is said that anti-capitalists are irresponsible people. They do not admit their faults and don't act to solve their problems. They are unable to take responsibility for themselves and their shortcomings. They need help from the government.

Paradoxically and conveniently, this discourse does not apply to the capitalist system. One of the most common lines of argument of those who defend relies on irresponsibility.

This argument says that capitalism is a system based on healthy competition and a market that tends to balance. It only gives good things.

Bads, errors, or defects attributed to capitalism are someone else faults. The crisis is the fault of the state and its interventionism. The underdevelopment of a country is the fault of the incompetence of its inhabitants.

Under this logic, no state saves private firms and gives them juicy contracts. Underdevelopment has nothing to do with centuries of colonialism and imperialism.

We are talking about a weak and simplistic thesis that collapses before any serious analysis. But it continues to be widely spread because of its propaganda utility. There are more respectable pro-capitalism arguments, but we will address them in future posts.
