Chips & Bits was one of many mail order companies that sold video game hardware and software in the early 1990s. This was before the days of ordering through the Internet. This particular ad is from the November 1994 issue of EGM 2. There were simply a huge number of systems available in those days. In this ad there is stuff related to the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, Atari Jaguar, 3D0, Neo Geo, CD-i and probably something I'm forgetting. The magazine this ad is in had more than 320 pages and it was EGMs second publication of the month.

I love these magazines. I used to subscribe to Nintendo Power way before it ended its publication. I would read every page of these magazines when I was young, from the reviews, the stories on the new games that were coming out, to even those ridiculous ads and sweepstakes they had in them. Great memories.

I even recall at my local EB Games, that the prices for new games, for example, Super Mario RPG for the SNES, were crazy expensive...I had to save up for months for that one game, I remember it coming close to $80 or something. Damn, but it was fun as hell though!

I used to buy Electronic Gaming Monthly and VideoGames & Computer Entertainment. There's no doubt the late 1980s through most of the 1990s was the golden age for video game related print magazines. EGM made a comeback for awhile but I dont think there are any left now...
