Sustainable gardening: here are 10 tips for an ecological garden
A garden that respects the environment and nature, is an eco-sustainable garden

Respect for the environment can also go through your garden. For this reason I have decided to give you 10 practical and useful suggestions, which will allow you to make sustainable gardening without any environmental impact.

The concept of respect for the environment can be summarised in 3 essential principles:

  1. Reuse;
  2. Reduce;
  3. Recycle.

By following these simple rules it is possible to make your environmental contribution also through sustainable gardening that, following small tricks, will become one of the most noble environmental activities you can do.

Here are 10 green tips for sustainable gardening and happy living!

  1. Remove the parasites with natural methods. Among the fiercest enemies of the environment are toxic chemicals, which are created to eliminate bad parasites, but at the expense of air and good parasites. By practicing sustainable gardening, bad pests that threaten the growth of your plants will be removed with natural remedies. The same applies to fertilizers: abandon chemical substances in favour of manure and other totally natural compounds;
  2. Compose to more I can not. Try to do home composting, because this is an infallible method to fertilize and nourish your plants through sustainable gardening! By composting domestically, organic waste will not be dispersed into the environment and, on the contrary, it will be used for a noble cause, namely that of feeding your plants. In this way you will not pollute the environment and recycle even what does not seem to be usable;
  3. Use systems that use rainwater harvesting to water, because this is a good way to create sustainable gardening. Recovering rainwater will allow you to avoid wasting more water and thus save money on your domestic consumption;
  4. Plants and oxen... of your countries. One of the basic principles of sustainable gardening is that you cultivate and garden only native plants in the area where you live. By making this choice, you can make sure that you save a lot of water and fertilizer, without considering the reduced parasitic attacks;
  5. Cultural herbicides.... cultural! If you don't want unpleasant weeds to grow up in your garden, forget the chemical and toxic herbicides and go for sustainable gardening systems! Old newspapers, for example, can be good allies. I recommend that you arrange 10 sheets of paper on the soil so that the ink (fully non-toxic) penetrates the soil to prevent weeds from growing;
  6. Self-handling. Sustainable gardening also means having sensitivity and respect for the food you eat. Self-production of fruit and vegetables is fundamental, especially in view of the respect of the seasonality of the products. In addition, this system will also enable you to support the environment by combating pollution and improper production. So, cultivate the food you eat!
  7. Water is a precious and depletable commodity. As it is now known, water is not an infinite resource and each of us, consuming it, must be fully aware of its exhaustiveness. Using water sparingly and prudently is a good way to create sustainable gardening. To water your plants, I recommend using irrigation hoses or drip irrigation systems, which use a higher percentage of water than sprayers. Also, always remember to water early in the morning so that the water will evaporate less quickly;
  8. Animals friends of the earth. Not all animals are garden enemies. Accept the animals that regulate the ecosystem of your sustainable garden. Many animals, in fact, as the wisdom and tradition of farming teach us, are excellent natural pesticides. For example, you will have bees in the garden, cultivating a lemon tree also in pots, and you can count on the useful contribution of butterflies, if you have the caution to plant a flower of lilac;
  9. Tool recycling. Gardening tools, pots and flower boxes can also be bought second hand. In vintage and second-hand markets you can find beautiful garden utensils and vases, which will take you back in time and decorate your balcony and garden. Reuse them!
  10. Always remember the 3 magic words. To have a sustainable garden and respect the environment, you only have to follow the 3 magic words: reduce, reuse and recycle!
