DTube vs Dlive, [Review] Pros and Cons
The question on my mind and most new steemians is -"between DTube and DLive, which one is best?"- I might not be the most tech savy person to answer this question but I believe experience has more weight. I have tried both platforms and will discuss in this post about the pro's and con's I've come accross on writing this blog post.
A lot of us don't have an hour or 30 minutes to spend on social media or to struggle with uploading content to any of the steem based platforms. Time is money and it can't be waisted, I also want to disclose that none of the two platforms are aware of my writing this post and I am not getting payed to promote a specific platform.
Personal oppinion
I have uploading 2 viedeo's to #dtube and have found it to apear user friendly and not sophisticated at all, but a problem I have been experiencing is the "failed to upload" ERROR mesage, sometimes I have to try 3 or 4 times to upload before it actually working. I had so manny problems with uploading my first video that I tried 4 times to upload and eventually got a bandwidth error message from too many failed attemps. Other then that I have not encountered any problems and might give it a try again in the near future.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- It's YouTube-like platform that people will be mostly familiar with.
- Can create your own dTube channel
- Fairly easy to use and upload
- Vote percentage is built in for all users.
- Thumbs-up under each video for upvoting.
- Rewards displayed with $0.000 decimal places.
- Can hide all NSFW videos
Cons:
- Lacks features like subscriptions.
- Thumbs-down (down-vote) is a little too conspicuous.
- dTube adds "dtube-" in front of all your tags (you can edit this in steemit).
- Biggest gripe: does not embed the video in steemit, but links to dTube to view.
I like the whole idea of the Live video or upload video choice that you have, today I uploaded my first video to #dlive and it was a great pleasure. Although I have a slow upload capability it took me one try and that was it. Very user friendly interface and a pleasure to use, definately my first choice the next time I upload a video and look forward to using the Live video option in the near future.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- It's YouTube-like platform that people will be mostly familiar with.
- Offers the opportunity to go "live",
- Offers a donation button,
- Informaqtive "help" section for users,
Cons:
- Lacks features like subscriptions.
- Thumbs-down (down-vote) is a little too conspicuous.
- DLive adds "dlive-video" in front of all your tags (you can edit this in steemit).
- Does not enable yo to embed the video in a post.
Final Thoughts
It all comes down to personal prefrence and both platforms are still in an early development stage, what the future holds, only time will tell. Share your personal oppinion below and together we can make it a better community.
Thanks for this comparison. I aksed the quetion in musing .io : "what's the difference between dlive & dtube ?" but so far no answer and I found yours here at Steemit. Thanks
steemit.com is the second bible
On Dlive you can not remove the lead tag of main category. I ran into the issue of a live stream not working. It will still list the action in the Steemit blog area. I had three failed attempts to go live, so now I am trying to fill them in with stories with pictures. I can not remove the Dlive lead tag. Thanks for the quick read. Might go back to dtube.
nice comparison and i do get the point of the different platforms. But i'm still hesitant. Because the one I might choose , I'm gonna fully commit to it . What will happen if I upload to both platforms ? double the views ?
Well @silky-unicorn597 you should not do that as you will be annoying your genuine followers with the same content. Try and change it up and also add something more to it for each platform.
Think of it like this...
Steemit.com - Write a blog here add pictures and as much information as possible to make sure your message gets across clearly to anyone reading it. This could be a tutorial or a story to share or anything random. Just write and add pictures to express your message as clearly as possible.
Dlive.io - Film a live candid video of you talking about the object. This your opportunity to be one on one with your followers, the time to make a connection with them. The reason people subscribe and come back is "YOU"!
D.Tube - Now here this platform I would suggest using it to upload videos you have put a lot of work into and want to take it to the next level of expressing your message through video form. Because this is not live, this gives you the opportunity to put more flare to your video, through post production editing. Once again another opportunity to showcase your artistic talent and also have a better connection to your followers.
You can even go a few more steps further and add photos from that post to SteepShot application another Steemit application but only for photos. Also if their is audio say from an interview you did you could take the audio and start posting that on Dsound.audio another application on Steemit but for audio only.
Hope that helps!
I am an newbie to Steemit and have just discovered Dtube and Dlive. I was not sure how to use each platform - particularly Dtube and Dlive. You suggestions are really helpful. Thank you :)
@jenniferbailey Welcome Jennifer! Let me knoq if you need any help!

Dlive.io lets you upload videos. There is no reason to use d.tube because they don't store your videos and they take a cut, both of which d.live is a clear improvement. Also technically d.live seems to work a lot more regularly and intuitively (to me).
One key point that was not pointed out, and all fairness it may not have been available when this post was originally made. Do not know if anyone will actually even see this. The main factor as a CONTENT CREATOR for me is where will my work be and for how long will it be displayed. From what I have learned from using both platforms is that D.Tube get rid of your videos after sometime unless its going viral, Dlive on the other hand holds your video forever like YouTube.
If this aspect does not change on D.Tube, Dlive will be the platform i will be posting too mainly!
If you're not Partner on DLive then there are limits - I especially notice it with live replays, default is 7 days for non partner, 25 for partner. Uploading video is currently only available for DLive Partners.
Thanks so much for this! I agree the Dtube is the most familiar because of youtube. Definitely the one I was drawn to first.
