The Flash Season 5 Episode 18: 'Godspeed' Review
[Careful for Spoilers!]
Team Flash has finally discovered the truth about Nora's involvement with Eobard Thawne, and after leaving us to stew over this for a month, returns with a heart-wrenchingly emotional episode that shows (once again) just how deeply Barry hurts over anything to do with his nemesis.
Nora is locked up in the pipeline. Tensions are high between the rest of the team as they meet in the cortex to discuss this, especially against Sherloque, who is being persecuted in his role as messenger of bad news, and between Barry and Iris, who feel very differently as to how to treat Nora after the betrayal.
They come to only one agreement: to find out exactly what led to Nora's working with Thawne by reading her now-translated journal.
The journal throws us into Nora's life as a CSI before her powers, strikingly similar to Barry's with her brilliance, tardiness and obsession with something others consider impossible--in her case, the villian Cicada. She also has a close friend and colleague, Leah, whom she shares everything with. While on an investigation, the two deduce that a new speedster (something Central City hasn't seen since the disappearance of The Flash) is behind a series of robberies. When they run afoul of him, he throws a lightning and electrocutes Nora, shorting out her inhibitor chip in the process. She comes to in the hospital with her speed, but they don't recognise the inhibitor tech and at first, attribute her abilities to the effect of Godspeed's lightning. This changes soon when Leah runs a series of tests and discovers the device's true purpose. However, before they can do anything with the info, Godspeed strikes again and during the attack, Leah is killed.
At this point of the reading of the journal, Iris overides Barry and frees Nora from the pipeline to give the rest of the story herself. Nora does, explaining her anger at her mother in the future, especially when the latter revealed that everyone else in the family kbew about her speed. With revenge in her heart, she turns to the only one who can teach her to take down Godspeed, Eobard Thawne, in prison on death roll, and when he does, their partnership begins.
Despite these, Barry retains his belief that Eobard is manipulating Nora and takes her back to the future, warning her that he would know if she tried any more excursions to the past, and abandoning there.
Before he leaves 2049 though, he pays Eobard an angry visit, but Eobard is not disturbed by his words although his tiner shows he has only 10 minutes left.
