Riverdale: Final Verdict

in #reviews7 years ago (edited)

Character development from Betty, Veronica, and Archie has not changed from the first episode. The only person who seems to have any character development is Jughead because of who he is. The fact that he does not say a ton all the time, makes for a good character development. When he does say something, it is important and it is relevant. Jug is a strong character.

I feel as though; Betty and Veronica say too much and that does not allow them to have any significant character development. They tend to talk too much and I don’t know who they are exactly by the things they say. They are predictable things they are saying, and I cannot figure out if that is good or bad right now. However, like I said before, plenty of times, Jughead is the main star of the show.

Veronica being that “bitch” of a character is becoming predictable. Betty is the goodie-two-shoes and that is predictable. Archie is the good boy turned bad and that is predictable. We know what these characters are going to do, something eye-opening or something not so eye-opening. It is just about when and how they execute it.

What we do need is more from the “gay best friend” (Kevin Keller) – what he is labeled as because no one can remember his name. Mostly because he is the friend on the side who says witty comments and talks about the cute boys of the school. We, as viewers, get nothing from him and we rarely see him unless there’s a guy involved or Betty at school. He does not show up unless it is a situation where he is needed, essentially.

Where is he when they are at the café drinking milkshakes? Is he not that good of a friend? It confuses me because he is one of my favorite characters aside from Jug. We need more of a basis for him, other than just an extra. Right now, he is just an “extra” in the show “Riverdale.” When he can act and his character is important to the show. Petition this.

I enjoyed the sass from Veronica, but she bowed down when she was confronted and that I don’t like. If you want to have a “bitch” character that’s a strong female character, then she needs to be able to stand up to asshole guys. I want to see more of that from her. Not just talk, but action. I, also, want to see more of Barb (Shannon Purser).

Josie is badass, she has a little character development in this episode. She is getting there because she has, so far, been just a girl who sings. I want to see more of this and I want to see more hints of “black lives” in TV shows. More hints of privilege in TV shows. We need that. We need this. Respect.

I want the character development to be less forced between Cheryl, Betty, and Veronica. I want it to come naturally and it to be something I am not annoyed by every time they speak. I want more for these characters. We are getting Betty turning “bad” because she is influenced by Veronica, but I saw that coming. The “good girl” always gets influenced by the “bad girl” friend and thus turns bad in result of that.

The Archie Comics are predictable, the comics are not about anything crazy. The way these characters are on the show is the way they are in the comics. I cannot complain about that. That is why I have an issue. When you turn a comic or creative measure into a TV show or film, you need to give these characters more depth. More something. They don’t have that yet. Granted, this is the third episode. We have time and I want to see it.

Side note: WHY WAS I SO HAPPY BETTY’S MOM GOT PUNCHED IN THE FACE?

Are you thinking this way all the time when watching shows or movies? If so, the contrast between you and me is funny; I'm the complete opposite. I just shut my brain off and watch it. I'm not pondering what characters I like, why I like them, or anything like that. I sit there enjoying the suspense, comedy, story, or whatever. There's no thinking involved. Haha
