Checking the SteemIt Rich List
Since I ascended to dolphinhood this week, I decided to check my position on the SteemIt richlist. The richlist shows that I am in position 890 when sorted by effective steempower . Yes, I have a delegation from an account I created for a game.
IMHO, effective SP is the most important stat as it determines the value of one's upvote.
When looking at the report, I am puzzled by the large number accounts delegating to whales. We have an extremely unbalanced distribution of steem power with just a few accounts dominating voting power.
When I sort by STEEM POWER, I fall to position 1452. I guess a lot of people are delegating their SP.
It is interesting to sort the list by power down. This shows the rats fleeing the sinking ship.
It is sad to see people who are powering down the bulk of their account.
I am not opposed to powering down. I think it is a necessary part of the platform.
Notably, it is the only way curators can receive payment for their effort. I think that curators matter.
I am powering down 5 STEEM a week. I think that it is important to receive an reward for the mass quanity of SP I bought this last month.
Smart Users Play to the Whales
Smart users learn the names of all the whales and play to the whales.
I think that the future of Steemit belongs to the small users who become dedicated to platform. I want to see the small accounts build up their steem power and thrive.
My belief is that the platform needs more dolphins. Unfortunately, being a steem dolphin is a marginal play. I suspect that most curators on this platform are underwater.

I was getting zero upvotes on Steemit so I decided to delegate 5,000 Steem Power to @jsup so that I at least earn 4 Steem per day … no matter what I post it’s the Only way I can grow my Steem Power.
I had to do the same thing on Blurt and Hive
Blurt : @jsup and @upvu (with Whalevault)
Steemit : @jsup
Hive : @ecency
Unfortunately this is the ONLY way I get upvotes …. And it has added up to $100,000 since 2017
I converted 99 % of that to TRON and Bitcoin
You have 6k steem power. That was enough to deliver a two penny upvote last week. I believe that 6K SP delivers $0.01999 right now.
I think you would do better if you dropped the delegation and used your upvote value for networking. Since you are close to being a dolphin, you might as well become a dolphin which happens at about 6150 SP.
The sad truth is that most curators don't read the posts. They vote according to a formula.
The algorithm weighs votes by the order of the votes. If I get my vote in before a whale, the system multiplies the return for the vote. When I vote after a whale, i end up losing a portion of my vote to the whale.
I try to upvote at the five minute mark. If a post already received big rewards at 5 minutes I skip it an move on to the next where I might receive a higher reward.
The @jsup upvote comes early. Since my upvotes are influenced by the algorithm, I often ignore posts by authors that bought a jsup upvote.
I think it is a stupid formula, but code is king and people must play to the algorithm.
Since you have enough SP to sweep dust, I think that the best path would be to drop the delegation and to use your upvote to sweep dust. People really appreciate dust sweepers.
If you have a two penny upvote, you can sweep any of your posts that fail to cross the two penny mark.
If one of your posts failed to cross the $0.02 mark; then you should upvote the post. This assures that your curators get their reward.
Best of all, you can upvote comments. NOTE, I have just enough vote value to upvote your reply.
If you removed your delegation, you would probably start earning more and would become part of the solution.
