LimX Dynamics Claims to Have Created the First Operating System for Autonomous Agents, COSA
Different from other systems used in robots, LimX’s COSA is capable of creating a mental map of objects, people, and environments, thus allowing it to use this information. When someone gives a command such as, for example, “get a glass of water,” it understands the intention and uses this knowledge to get the glass of water, unlike other systems that require a script with commands. It also updates unforeseen events in real time and adjusts to obstacles.
It is also capable of thinking while acting, stopping and talking while it still has a mission... thus making it similar to a human.
That is, it is capable of doing “anything” autonomously, without needing to be supervised all the time, but it is still not AGI.
Personally, I think it would be much more incredible if companies started using operating systems like this for their robots, instead of always trying to create a new one from scratch. That way, they could focus only on the hardware instead of creating everything from scratch. But I imagine that few want to be tied to someone else’s operating system, which will possibly charge a monthly fee in the future and possibly can install a backdoor and shut it down remotely.
