Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers will soon turn 45 years old

in #runningyesterday

This is right around how old I am so this seems like a pretty monumental event. Most HHH chapters around the world do not make it this far for various reasons and sadly, the main one seems to be that the members of the Hash worldwide are literally dying out. It isn't really a young man's game so to speak, and most of our events involve people that are long retired with very few youngbloods to pick up where we leave off. I hope other places around the world are different but in the meantime we have 45 to look forward to in just a few months.

This picture kind of defines us pretty well. Bunch of old people who love beer that are constantly in a state of injury. There are a few members in our ranks that are quite athletic but I will be honest, there aren't that many of them. I mostly run or jog or at least walk our events pretty quickly but there are only a couple of us in our ranks that run all the events and this was particularly evident at our recent ballbreaker event where 50 people started the event and less than 10 actually finished it. Of these finishers two of them are members in their late 20's or mid 30's who don't fully embrace the social side of things meaning that they don't even really stick around for the talks and beers we have afterwards. There is no obligation to do so, it just kind of makes a few of the older members upset.

In our 45 years of existence we have seen a lot of changes including several times where the CMH3 nearly disbanded because of internal squabbles. We are kind of going through a little bit of that at the moment with their apparently being two camps locally and a few members in each camp that absolutely hate one another. I am hopeful they can work this out if for nothing else than to come together to celebrate our very important milestone on the 25th of May, 2026.

On this weekend we have planned 3 events on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. On Sunday we will celebrate the ending of the term of our current General Mis-Manager and on Monday we will elect a new GM. You do not need to be a member of any of the Hashes in order to attend.

You can expect 3 very different runs on each day with special Hares ensuring that each one is something that annoys you in a very different way than the others. It is important to note that the event on Monday is men-only and this is based solely on tradition and is not meant in any sort of sexist way. The Monday Hash has been men-only everywhere in the world that you can't get sued for such a thing for over 100 years and we have no intention of changing that here in Thailand.

If you want to attend the other events they are both mixed runs and you can get full information including how to get involved, where to meet, and how much it is (very little money) by going to our official poorly-made website
