Kind of lazy flat run where we noticed all the greenery is disappearing

It's that time of year where the crops are being pulled back and things are just turning brown when you look around. It will be back though as this is still a tropical country and any cutting of anything or using of chemicals or fire to burn it off results in life finding a way and returning to green glory later.

It can feel a bit hotter than it actually is during these times but nobody is complaining because very soon the skies are going to open up and dump a ton of rain on us for 3 straight months.

A lot of these farms can seem a bit strange but I understand why they kill all the undergrowth around their cash crops. They serve no economic purpose. It does seem extra dry though when every step you take has a dry crunch to it.

This last week's run didn't take us out to the jungle and as you can tell by the skymap, this was kind of a lazy trail set by the Hares involving almost entirely right angles and following of roads.

This isn't ideal because part of the fun is us not knowing where the trail will go and after the 3rd circle check where the path continued on the road ahead it was pretty predictable where it was going to go next.
I can't complain though because I rarely set trails since I still work. I always keep my mouth shut or lie when it comes time to tell your opinion about the trail because if they were to clap back with "why don't you set a trail then?" I wouldn't have much to say back to that.

I am not lazy, I just have a job. I think they understand.

But this brings about a point of membership with the Hash in Chiang Mai that new members need to understand. At some point, normally a few months after you join and get a Hash Name, it will be kind of expected of you to pitch in and help out with organizing the runs. It takes a bit of time but we have a sort of apprentice program where you will be paired up with someone that has done it many times before. I've done it a couple of times and felt like I learned a lot from it. You just meet the other Hare somewhere and then either drive or get a taxi to your proposed location. Of course if you are not familiar with the geography of Chiang Mai this is going to be even more complicated and this is why it is so important that you have a guide to teach it to you

We need to replace our ranks though because every year our Hares get older and less capable of making the trails and this is why they sometimes look a bit lazy from a satellite. You can't really go after a guy that is approaching 70 years old for not wanting to climb over untouched hills looking for an interesting trail to use though, can you?

We did have some patches of green on this run, but not a lot of it. In a few months there is going to be so much growth from the intense rainy season that temporarily anyway, a lot of our paths are going to be almost impassable and covered with new jungle growth.

There's two sides to every coin I guess.

If anyone out there is going to be in the Chiang Mai area and wants to participate all are welcome. You socialize, meet the locals, get some good information, get a bit of exercise, and if you want, drink a bunch of beers. All this for around $6. not so bad.
