Songkhla hosting this years Songkran H3 run

I hate to admit it, but up until this was announced I was completely unaware that Songkhla even had a Hash House Harriers chapter. I guess this just goes to show how popular the Hash is in Thailand because there are just more and more of them popping up all over the place.

Sonkran is an important holiday in Thailand where almost everyone gets a week or so off work and giant water fights break out all over the country. This will be as true in Songkhla as it is anywhere else in the country and seeing as how I have never been there, I am looking forward to it.

As it turns out, this is where a lot of the oil workers from all over the world call home because it is a launching point for all the people that work on off-shore rigs. The town is a good size at just over 60,000 inhabitants, so if you are planning to go it is a good idea to go ahead and book the hotel now since Songkran is basically the most important holiday of the year and you can expect places to be fully-booked.

For me, I revel in getting out of Chiang Mai during Songkran because while I enjoy the holiday, they do the water fight portion of the holiday too much up here. While for most places it is a 1 or 1 and a half day event, in Chiang Mai this goes on for something nuts like 8 days. After a while you get tired of having water thrown at you everywhere that you go and your amusement starts to turn into anger. Therefore, I think I'll just sit out the festivities entirely this year as far as Chiang Mai is concerned and see if they keep it a bit more reasonable in Songkhla.
