Running: Back At 100%

Five days ago I had my toughest ever day one the bike, you can see the full breakdown of how it went down here.

At one of the highest points on the ride...

The days after I'd felt pretty much okay, the following day after the big ride (a Sunday) was just fine in the morning. I woke up feeling pretty fresh, headed down into town on food for the morning Sunday Service just fine. However after heading back up, having some lunch and nap I took a turn for the worse. I woke up feeling less than ideal, pretty sick in fact, as if I was going to vomit. I started out pretty determined to get back down to town for the evening service. But then it occurred to me I was not going to make it back down without throwing up along the way. So, unfortunately I didn't make it. But thankfully my trusty training partner from the following day (Dai, who features in my post above), sent me a recording of the sermon, so all was not lost.

On the Monday I had an exam (which went meh, but I was expecting that...), and went for my normal scheduled swim expecting all to just go as normal. But it did not, felt horrifically sluggish and far from 100%. This was very strange as just wondering around going about normal tasks I felt just fine, but taking it up a notch and getting in the pool to break out the hand paddles yielded less than a healthy feel. Struggled to drag myself through the water, but did what I could.

Looking less than 100%...

The Tuesday, I figured I'd be fine. Usual thing, had a run scheduled for first thing, went out, 6 km I snapped like a twig. Full on, bonked out to nothing, so limped home. Legs felt heavy, again, not my usual self.

The rest of the week pretty much is the same story. But today (Thursday, 5 days later) things have looked up. Hit the pool got through the session fine, no dramas. Just got in from evening run, felt great. No music to listen to, which is far from the norm (headphones have finally packed up on me). But that was no issue, I've found listening to my breathing and footsteps has made me able to pace myself much better. Although I look at my heart rate on my watch, being tuned in to the audio of my surroundings help just fine.

Feeling fresh...

So its back to normal, onwards and upwards.

So.... a virus maybe?

I've just got back to running myself after fighting with a virus that took me out totally for two weeks.

Take your time. you'll probably have a couple of days again soon where you don't feel so good. Take it easy on those days and then you should come right (fingers crossed).

Possibly, would make sense considering how long rides/runs suppress your immune system a bit. But I'm pretty sure I'm all good now. Gunna hit the road on the bike this afternoon after getting some revision done and see how it goes.
