The human cost is high.

The daily stream of videos coming out of Ukraine reveals Russia's atrocious tactics.

First, Russia tries to send in large mechanized assaults, which almost always end up as piles of rubble. Fields and roads littered with heavy equipment and dead bodies. When they run out of armored vehicles, they start sending in waves of meat. Small units of soldiers, sometimes on bicycles or electric scooters, but often on foot, come in day and night. There are hundreds of videos of this expendable Russian flesh being maimed and committing suicide under a sky full of drones. But eventually the Ukrainian positions are exhausted and they have to retreat.

This is why I have little doubt about Trump's 600,000 casualty figure for Russia. It could easily be much higher. Several lines of evidence support such very high casualty figures.

The way Russia is using its forces is unsustainable in the long run. Ukraine is a large country, and it can retreat for a long time while inflicting maximum casualties on Russia. The only way this doesn't end in disaster for Russia is a peace deal that allows them to rebuild their strength and attack again in a few years.

Note: By suicide, I meant literally suicide, not metaphorically. They shoot themselves or use grenades.
