My First Run - The Shark Runner 2017
I have participated in The Shark Runner 2017 held last Saturday. It was my first run and first medal that I got. I arrived early and saw the organizer was still touching up all the necessary setup. The flag off time was 6:40 a.m. which was a bit delay from the time being set which was 6 a.m. It was a 5.3km run and I am able to finished it in less than 1 hour and I'm proud of it although I had my muscle pain for the next 2 days.
The race pack was distributed a week before the run. In the race pack there were awesome t-shirt, washable tattoo, gorgeous fin and most IMPORTANT the bib which compulsory to be wear during the run. No BIB, No MEDAL ya! The fin given was a plain polystyrene foam where participant can decorate based on their creativity. Too bad that I didn't decorated mine and I saw my friends decorated theirs gorgeously and carried along the run and their fins were safe from being attacked.
Along the run there were 2 groups of CHEF with 2 different locations standby to attack the participants' fins. Congratulations to those participants who survived from the Chef attacks. Some of the Shark Runners were badly attacked by the Chef. Pelaka paint was used as indicator for the fresh blood. Those red mark symbolizes the survival that been made! A moment to be remembered and shall remain as commemorate. After the run, there were Lucky Draw section and I didn't wait for the section as it was a tired day for me as I back at 3a.m. took my 2 hours nap and went for the run.
Love to dress in costume? Don't have to wait till Halloween to do so. In line with the run, the Best Shark Costume contest was also held for either runner or non-runner. Just sign up and dress on your creative awesome sharkie costume, present on the stage with your sharkie walk and Cash Prizes awaiting to be won.
What is Shark Fining?
Shark fining refers to the removal of fins from the sharks; mostly while the shark is still alive. After the fins being removed, the living sharks are sometimes discarded back to the ocean. Without the fins, the sharks unable to swim effectively which lead it sinks to the bottom of the ocean and die of suffocation or are eaten by other predators.
