Who is Responsible for Salvation? Man or God
Today, in many Christian circles, the major bone of contention in most arguments has been about salvation. It is not strange to hear questions like, when is a man really saved?, What role do we play in salvation? Can I keep my salvation? Can I lose it?
Many of these questions arise due to the fact that the church of Christ today has decided not to give attention to the study of the word and prayer. There are things that will never be known unless they are taught.
If you ask me, I think about 70% percent of the Christian faith have deviated from the true gospel. We are comfortable going to churches were business strategy and successful marital life are taught in the place of the gospel of Christ. And because the gospel has been relegated to the background in the past few decades, whenever their is a voice preaching or teaching the pure gospel it is often seen as rebellion or heresy.
We are so caught up with the issues of life that we never for once stopped to ponder on the greatest aspect of our faith, SALVATION.
First, it is important to note that the only part man played in the story of salvation was receiving. God gave, man received. So it will be very illogical to say that we gave our lives to Christ(Although it might make sense in some context) because we had nothing to give. In fact scriptures tell us that we were dead in sins. That means we were spiritually dead men. Now tell me what God would want to do with a dead spirit.
So salvation was a receiving process, not a giving process and how we received this great gift was by believing in the coming, the death and the resurrection of Christ. By recognizing that he is the SAVIOUR, we acknowledge that he came to die for sins both past, present and future.
The work of man is to freely receive that which has been given to him. Now that we have successfully established that salvation was a receiving process in that we received the life of Christ, we can now understand that we can not loose salvation because it is a free gift. We did not work for it, so we can't work to keep it. Imagine trying to take something back when you did not actually give it in the first place - that is how foolish it is to think that we can take our lives back from God - God never took anything! We did not give, he did!. If there should be anyone taking back something it should be God. But we know that his gifts are without repentance, that is, he does not change his mind concerning his gifts.
So we have been able to understand that God is the orchestrator of Salvation from start to finish.
If he is responsible for salvation then he is also responsible for keeping it.
Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
He is the one that can keep you from falling.
