How did you get so close in the second photograph of the Red-Bellied Woodpecker, my favourite of them all.
Your North American birds are far more colourful than ours.

I was exactly the same distance I am from most of the birds photographed. I used the full zoom (300 mm) to take the photograph. Then I cropped the photograph which enlarged it at the same time. I used an ISO setting of 100. This generally allows me to enlarge the photographs a bit without loosing detail.
The photograph is one of my favorites too. It looks like the little guy was posing for the picture. But actually it was getting ready to fly away.
