The Milky Way is on the Way to COLLIDE with the Andromeda Galaxy in 4 billion years!

in #science7 years ago

In about 4 billion years our Galaxy the Milky Way WILL collide with the Andromeda galaxy, one
of our neighbor galaxies and thus giving birth to a new Galaxy.

Milkdromeda

Milkdromeda on earth will look like this: But why? Well the answer is simply because things in the universe move and our galaxy the milky way is currently moving with a velocity of 1987200Km per hour or 552km PER SECOND!
I tried to put this into perspective so 552km per second (342,997miles/s) are similar to driving from Washington (District of Columbia) to Toronto in ONE SECOND
Or from Washington to Columbus (Ohio) in ONE SECOND!
Now as we know it the Andromeda Galaxy contains about 1Trillions Stars and the attraction of the galaxies will occur in 3.75 billion years as they finally collide in 4 billion years. The Andromeda Galaxy is the second largest Galaxy in the local group a region of space about 5 - 8 million light-years large.
The Local Group is important as we will never be able to leave nor touch the outside of the local group...ever...at some point due to the expansion of the universe, the galaxies will be so far that he will not be able to detect them because the photons that reach us will be stretched in such a long wave lengths that they'll be undetectable )≈ Everything outside of the local group will be dark and empty..for ever.
At this point I lost track of the actual topic in this post but you have to admit that this is actually sad and frustrating but this is a topic for an upcoming Space post. So how will the collision look like? A little something like this: And here is an album of how the night sky would look like as time passes (pictures by vsauce):

That's it so if you like it, you know what to do thanks for reading
Have a good day and keep the telescope steady at the stars (; Quick huh?

Interesting! The animation and photos are great. I first learned about this coming galactic merger in the Revelation Space sci-fi series. I don't want to spoil anything so I can't talk about what role the merger played in the plot but it was interesting!

Thanks, you just opened a new world for me » Space COMICS.
I never thought of that (Space and comics) thanks.
