In the USA a psychologist goes to school longer than a psychiatrist and learned many types of therapy, in addition to psychological testing, while the psychiatrist typically gets little training in talk therapy, mainly specializing in writing drugs. The psychiatrist, being a medical doctor spends much of his training on other medical issues like delivering babies or treat heart issues. Most of medical school is spent memorizing facts and then for a couple years rotating through various medical "rotations" They probably get the same amount of clinical preparation but the psychologist gets more wide exposure within psychology
