Effects of Toxic Fabrics

Long gone are the days we stuck to natural fabrics only: cotton, flax, wool, hemp, natural silk to mention a few. But today, we have numerous modern man-made synthetic fibres such as nylon, acrylic, polyester, rayon and so on, a lot of which has threatened our health either we know it or not. When it comes to your health, what you don't know can kill you. Below are lists of fabrics you shouldn't not be a constant wearer of and the threats they pose to human lives.

        EFFECTS OF TOXIC FABRICS 

Nylon

This is a petroleum based fibre, very popular but very toxic due to the chemicals it was treated and manufactured with. Some of these chemicals include Caustic soda, Formaldehyde, Sulfuric acid and so on. The finished form holds toxic residues from bleaching and soften agents such as Terpinol, Limonene and Chloroform. A frequent wearer of clothes made from this fiber is prone to cancer and skin allergies, system dysfunction. Humans are not the only ones who suffer tge consequence of this technological advancement, the ecosystem is not left out.

Polyester

This is the most dangerous of all fibres. This man-made fabric is quite famous for its wrinkle-free, drying up properties, resistance to water but it should be avoided as much as possible. It has been scientifically proven that lots of health issues can be attached to frequent wear of this type of fabric. Also, recycling polyester is quite hard, its production leads to deposition of toxins into the water and air, making it dangerous to the environment as well.

Rayon

Rayon comes from recycled bamboo cellulose processed by a combination of many chemicals involving carbon disulphate, Sulfuric acid, Ammonia, Acetene and Caustic soda to withstand regular washing and constant wear.

Consequently, Carbon disulphate emitted from rayon fabric causes nausea, headache, muscle and chest pain and insomnia. The toxins released from the fibres causes tissue necrosis, anorexia and Parkinson's disease for an excessive wearer. Without doubt, it is dangerous to human. Dumping waste from its production process causes water pollution and harm to plant growth and animal's life.

Acrylic

It is not possible to recycle acrylic neither is it biodegradable. This is due to the toxic substances it is manufactured with. It has also been discovered to be a cause of breast cancer in women. An explosion can even erupt during its production if its not properly done.
