Flat earth, water and laserssteemCreated with Sketch.

I watched a video not so long ago that was presented by Discovery. In this video they used a few logical tests to prove theories.

  • Firstly they used light (lasers) to shoot across the surface of the earth. This was because we all know light would not follow any curvature of the earth, but remain true and straight if not shining through any material
  • Secondly they used water as the medium over which they would test the light. Any time you put water into a container or containers, it would fill the lowest part of the container first, and level all sections of it till the water is level again. Regardless of what you put into the water, it would always level out and then be even and straight thereafter. Slight curves on the water membrane are negligible so they do not count as curves in the water.

So essentially the test is this, to send out a laser beam across the water, and keep travelling as far as you can to test that the water and the light continue in a flat parallel manner. Should they stay parallel then the earth would not be round but flat as many people believe.

What I found really interesting about the video is just how quickly you notice the curve over the water. I would never have believed that it would be so prominent.
When they eventually changed from a boat to a helicopter then it became even more remarkable. For there to be such a clear curve over the water was not expected for someone like me, that already believed the spherical earth information.

I battle to understand that people still hold to the flat earth ideas, but have no issue with them thinking that.

Perhaps this experiment done by renowned scientist Stephen Hawking will assist in their decisions?
If not then so be it.
I for one think the world is richer for people having their own ideas about things, and as soon as we try to force them otherwise we become worse off...especially when the belief is benign.
When it comes to things like cancer being caused by emotions then perhaps you should worry if you are in their care.

In actual fact I have a friend that is a strong liberal, and even though I disagree with a some of what she says, she is also able to really connect with people that I cannot. She cares, loves them, and affects them in ways that I cannot...and when you are trying to help people become employed and successful in society, those things are essential.
My way is often not the way that works...even if I believe it is.

So embrace the world's diversity...even if some of them you feel should go to the edge of the world and keep rowing.

Enjoy the video....I certainly did!
