Curiosity Science Contest Response - The Birth and Death of a Star
We have all seen the night sky and the millions of diamond-like stars that decorate it. But have you ever wondered what these stars really are and how they ended up there?
In layman terms, a star is a big (really big!) plasma ball made of hydrogen and helium. But how did these balls of plasma came to be?
False-color imagery of the Sun
I was about to write an article addressing these questions but half-way through I decided to delete everything. I am not talented enough to make this topic sound as exciting as it actually is. So, instead I will let some narrated CGI-rich videos do most of the talking for me!
The birth of a star
Stars are formed inside relatively dense concentrations of interstellar gas and dust known as molecular clouds. Professor Stephen Hawking (narration by Benedict Cumberbatch) explains how they come to be:
Stars are born in big hydrogen clouds like the one pictured above
Not all stars are created equal
Now we know how stars are formed.. But not all stars are created equal!
There are many different types of stars, ranging from tiny brown stars to red and blue super giants! And there are some other peculiar ones, like neutron stars and Wolf-Rayet stars. And with our knowledge expanding every passing day, it's possible that there are many types we still haven't discovered! Here's a great article explaining all the different types out there if you want to learn more about them. [2]
And here's a video showing a size comparison between our sun and some true giants out there... The difference will blow your mind!
A star
The death of a star
Not all stars are born equal and not all stars share the same death. For example, our sun will have a boring death, turning into a white dwarf that slowly cools down until nothing is left. But others go with a universe-shattering bang or turn into black holes sucking up everything and anything that gets too close to their high-gravity grasp. Here's a National Geographic video on the final moments of stars :
And here's a video with more details on the birth of black holes. The first guy looks so excited XD
A black hole
The End
Let me close this post with two more videos. Ever wondered what will happen if you trip and fall into a blackhole? Here's your answer:
And finally, here's what will happen to earth when our sun dies (full documentary) :

Black holes or write dwarfs. Please pick up your favorite ;)
hmm I call white dwarfs boring.. sooo it's black holes I guess :)
ohoho... Then be ready for the gravitational collapse ;)
so they do turn into black holes eventually? I am confused :(
No they don't. They are not dense enough for that.
and now you confused me even more :( Why do you speak with riddles?
I was not serious from the start actually. More seriously, how a star ends depends on its mass. White dwarfs and black holes are two possible ends, as neutron stars are too. According to the mass of the star, you will get one or the other.
Ufff.. Glad to know what documentaries taught me since I was a child wasn't BS :D

I would like to vote for your article as you apparently put some time and effort to create it, but I can't as by usage of some photos in it you are heavily violating copyrights!
Although you have put the source there it doesn't mean you are allowed to use those photos and especially not for commercial purposes (and Steemit is commercial as you are earning on this platform).
In case, you think you hold the rights (what I, unfortunately, and sincerely doubt, you should put the license terms (or the link to it) under which you are holding it.
Please, consider editing your post (there are many sites around where from the photos and images are entirely free to use even for commercial purposes), and especially think about it and keep it in mind when creating your next post.
No worries :) . He took photos from my posts and i have given the credits for the pics :) .
@trumpman , Just link the pictures to my post. Hope this will solve the problem.
What does it mean, @curiousity, you "have given the credits for the pics?" - Telling us where from you have been copied/pasted it, borrowed or stolen them?
The question is, do you hold the rights to do so???
If yes - please show us and let us know by attributing and linking accordingly to the specific licenses.
Personally, I would be most interested to see the license from John Vermette for his photo (in this article called: 'Stars are born'.)
As if you are not holding it, I can only add that I hope you are rich enough!
Ok I changed all my photos. You said you would upvote my post if it wasn't for the images. I expect an upvote now!
Yes, you did - but you didn't credit them.
I DONT NEED TOO, I DO WHAT I WANT WITH THEM, OK?
OK - no problem! So it's now a clear #plagiarism
If you are posting content under CC0 or Public Domain you should also consider to mentioning/noting it at the end of your post as otherwise, it may result in action from the cheetah bot.
Calling me names, besides bein rude and obvious lack of manners from your side, it's also considered as #steemitabuse.
THEY ARE PUBLIC DOMAIN YOU FUCKING IDIOT FROM NASA! YOU GET A RETARDED/10. Well Done!! Be proud of yourself!
Geez.... I need a safe-space from you. get it? safe SPACE?
Edit: Forgot to give your reward:
thanks for spamming your site. I am reporting the website on google webmasters for unnatural links. You are welcome.
P.S.: I have also archived the website, don't try deleting the comment.
???
your profil reads "social media marketing"
Coincidence 1. You linked to a digital marketting company
Coincidence 2. In the about section of that marketting company there is a girl with the same hair, same glasses and a face that looks very similar to you.
As I said, reported to google for spam. If that site isn't yours, you have nothing to fear.
I don't know what are you talking about, but have fun!
can we just stop this? Both?
Hi Ana. I am using the photos the contest creator told us to use. Thus, I think your complaints should be adressed to him. Thanks for reading my article :)
P.S.: Link to contest -> https://steemit.com/steemstem/@curiousity/introducing-curiosity-science-contest-rewards-for-good-responses
P.S 2: Don't forget to copy paste the same message to the rest of the contestants https://steemit.com/trending/curiositycontest
In that case, complain goes both ways.
But at the same time, it's not him or her (contest creator) who is responsible for the content on your blog. You are the one who is responsible and in charge for your blog. Meaning, you are the one who has to check those things.
Copying of stolen it wouldn't help you if someone press charges.
I will keep that in mind. Thank you for caring for me. I appreciate it.

Stigmatatata from Lake Titicaca!
All cool and spectacular but I must say I love the video where we can see a stars death, to beautiful and also cool and also a bit sad... Great post!
Thanks, I am happy you enjoyed the post and the videos :) Why don't you try to participate too ? ^_^
