I'm not a fan of shark fin soup but I know it is considered very special to the Chinese. Many times it is part of special occasions like a wedding (went to many wedding receptions where this was usually the soup of choice). But it is sad that the shark is caught only for the fin. I don't know what the fruit you had is called but the inside does look a lychee.
