You can store your bitcoins in a local wallet on your computer which would be relatively safer. Other options would be to convert it to fiat currency or alt coins.
Yes some are buy ltc I believe.
Yes once BTC prices hit the bottom, it would be a good entry point into alt coins but i believe it would have to be a long hold.
