Is distributing press releases on news sites still effective for SEO in 2024?

Kinda stuck on this one. I used to blast out press releases to a bunch of news sites and it worked great for backlinks, but lately it feels like Google just shrugs at them. I’m running a small biz and don’t have cash to waste, so I’m trying to figure out if press release distribution is still worth it in 2024 or if it’s basically dead for SEO. Anyone here still seeing results? Or should I ditch it and focus on something else before I burn more money?

Short answer: not really for SEO anymore. Most press release links are nofollow or ignored, so the ranking boost is minimal now. They can still help with visibility or referral traffic, but if backlinks are the goal, you’ll usually get better ROI from content marketing, digital PR, or niche outreach instead.

I was in the same boat last year—burned cash on random wire services and got zilch for SEO. Lately I’ve had better luck targeting niche stuff that fits my biz. Crypto press release distribution on digitaljournal gave me solid visibility and a couple of legit backlinks that actually moved the needle a bit. It ain’t a miracle cure, but way more bang for the buck compared to spraying and praying.
