Seven Day Beer Challenge: Day 3 - Pompous Ass

The Beer

Day 3 and I am still thirsty. Today's candidate is Pompous Ass. It's an English Ale.

The IBU is 25 -- not hoppy enough for my taste, but I'll keep an open mind.

ABV is 4.2% -- Yes! This is right where I like it.

Needless to say, the can is a sissy-sized 473 ml (American pint). A real pint (Imperial pint) is 568 ml. This is what happens when you live next door to a neighbour with 10x your population who knows very little about beer. Their bad habits drift across the border. Don't worry, we are going to build The Wall.

"Pompous Ass is our version of an English Pale Ale. We use an American ale yeast to brighten up the flavour and add our own contenporary blend of hops to ensure that even the most pompous ale drinker does a double take."

"Fuggled Bottom says Drink This Ale Fresh"

Ok. What exactly does "Fresh" mean? I'm thinking it means serve it cold (3-5°C). I can do this.

Pompous Ass is brewed by Great Lakes Brewery in Toronto, Ontario. They have quite an interesting lineup with names like "Swamp Juice", "My Bitter Wife IPA", "Audrey Hopburn", "Over My Dad Body", and "No Chance With Miranda". I am very intrigued!

The Verdict

I am dying to review a beer that needs to be dumped down the drain, so I can post pictures of the dumping. This one doesn't quite make the cut. While this beer isn't really my thing, it's certainly not drain-worthy. If the difference between ale and stout is a continuum, Pompous Ass is somewhere in the middle, perhaps closer to ale than stout. I'm sure most brewmasters would slap me for making such a comparison. I prefer more hops, but it's ok. The rating below is my own personal preference. I have raised my score by about 2 points because "Pompous Ass" is such an amazing name and the artwork on the can is perfect.

7 out of 10.

Thank You @trumpman for starting this challenge. You da man!

Thank You @churchboy for nominating me. I want to go to your church!

Finally, I want to nominate @komal for this challenge. I am in possession of classified intelligence that suggests @komal loves beer and went to her local beer vendor today to stock up on brands she has never tasted before.

Need more info on the Pompous Ass? I strongly urge you to check out their site -- very entertaining:

Cheers!

Drain pours are sad. If you want some choices that would fit the bill let me know.

Interesante post, gracias por informarnos amigony se ve muy buena.Saludos.

haha..That's true. I like them but I am afraid the vendor here would hardly have anything to surprise or shock me.
I can give it a try though :P :D

Beer is life. Did I just type that? I mean water is life.

Beer is mostly water. Hence, I conclude that beer is mostly life (mixed with 5% giggly juice).

Hahaha I agree absolutely.

With a nose like that, how could he not be pompous. Sadly it scored lower than the previous two. Let us see what you come up with on the fifth day. I have enjoyed your beer journey (beerney) so far!

Well done :)
