Hope

in #short7 years ago (edited)

As rain started pouring down steadily, the street usually bustling with people became empty. People ran here and there to seek shelter. I was soaked to the skin and my spirits were as damp as the weather. It was one of those abysmal days when everything seemed to go wrong. The final semester results were out and my worst nightmare had come true. I had failed a subject by just one mark, and would have to repeat the year.

My mind was clouded just as the sky was, and my thoughts…….well, the slush on the road appeared a lot cleaner. On a rainy day like this, the street ways can be particularly deceptive and one can always stumble. I faltered and a car zoomed by, splashing me with mud. As my bag fell down, I cursed my stars for the hundredth time that day. When I bent to pick it up, I could sense something looking at me. Amidst the slush and dirt was a sole red flower with a single leaf clinging on to its swaying stem. The rain poured down ominously, threatening its very existence. Yet, the flower smiled at me and I unwittingly returned the smile. At least, I mused, there is some hope for me.
